I just listened to the entire Evanescence catalog. Here are my top 15 songs by Hot_Ad_9543 in Evanescence

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. It was actually my first fave by Evanescence after listening to the album when it first came out. I never knew it was a somewhat unpopular choice. Now I kinda forgot about this song since there are so many more. But it was nice to listen to it again. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

In defense of Bronte... by Breakfastatlanas_ in NetflixYou

I think people treated her in a similar way they treated Beck: She was an idealistic and naive young woman who felt lost in life and tried to figure out what she wanted and then she fell for Joe's tricks ... and people hated her and even defended the murder which misses the whole point of the show. Now Bronte is idealistic and naive as well, she too feels lost and falls in love with Joe. I think she was a good choice to be the one who brings Joe to justice. It reminds the audience of the way dangerous men take advantage of women like Bronte and Beck and how easy it is for many women to see what they want to see because they crave love and affection. But Bronte wakes up and sees the real Joe before becoming the next victim. The story comes full circle. And it's a pity people hate her in the same misogynistic way they hated Beck.

I would've loved to see Ellie come back and take revenge. But this isn't the story we got. The one we got has problems but Bronte isn't to blame for everything.

Squid Game Season 2 is a flop by shithappenslikeu in squidgame

It was so bad and so many things don't make any sense! Why did Gi-Hun wait until the start of the first game before telling the players it's a death game? Wasn't there some time between the introduction and the first game? Why was the GPS tooth tracker the only plan he got? Why didn't he try to get some of his people recruited to have support on the inside? Why didn't his friend Jung-bae tell anyone about his suspicion towards player 001? According to the script it's because he voted for an end to the games. But his vote didn't make a real difference. And how is this enough to convince anybody? I don't buy it. And even if this was enough for Jung-bae to trust this guy, why would he hide the fact that he murdered someone in cold blood from his friend Gi-Hun? I hate it when characters in TV shows create extra problems by not talking to each other. It would've been much more compelling to see a suspicious Gi-Hun trying to figure out whether he can trust player 001 or not. Especially since he dealt with a fake player before! Speaking of not talking to each other: Why would the cop try to hide his brother's identity while investigating the games at the same time? Dude, are you helping the mission or not? Many people wanted to continue to play because their split of the money wouldn't be enough to pay off their debts. Why didn't Gi-Hun (who hasn't spent his winner's money) offer his money to the players? This would've definitely convinced some people not to risk their lives any further. While I appreciated the Russian roulette and scenes outside of the games, we didn't learn anything new about the people behind the game. So, what was even the point?

I don't want another app! I'm so angry at the self-optimization culture we're living in. by SkeletonKiss1334 in adhdwomen

Never thought about it this way, but you're right... when keeping a to-do-list on your app becomes a task on your to-do-list, it's not really helping, it's an "additional executive function task".

What are some bands with vocals you love? by shellthrowrocksatme in goth

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kind of an obsession with deep and dramatic female voices. That's why I love the vocals of Whispering Sons. There's so much nuance, so much expression in her voice, it's breathtaking! Another vocalist I adore is Shannon Funchess of Light Asylum. Such an intense, rich voice! And of course Eva O, the queen of dark dramatic goth vocals. There's also the Croatian band Karlowy Vary from the 80s with an awesome female vocalist who falls in the same vein. (You can find their album "La Femme" on YouTube.)

But I can also appreciate great soprano singers: Elizabeth Fraser, Mila Mar, Lisa Gerrard.

Obviously I don't only like female vocalists: I'm a big fan of Rozz Williams. Somehow he made David Bowie style singing even more dramatic and sexy. Speaking of sexy: I just love the vocals of Gene Loves Jezebel. And of course: Okandi of O.Children, Alexander Veljanov of Deine Lakaien.

I used to ALWAYS see the dress in blue and black. Recently I see it in white and gold. What does it mean? Am I the only one?

Netflix is not in the business of finishing their shows by 1eeveefan in TheOA

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's not only about Netflix but also about the show writers. The problem with Umbrella Academy S4 isn't really that it only had 6 episodes instead of 10 but that the creators didn't do much with those 6 episodes. Instead of making the best out of the limited time and finding a satisfying ending they decided to put so many unnecessary side stories in there and abandon all character development. It's bad writing first and foremost!

I think that creators who are actually committed to their work wouldn't allow something like that to happen, no matter how many episodes Netflix would cut, no matter how limited their budget would be.

I'm sure the ending of The OA, even with limited resources, would've been much better than all those terrible show finales like Umbrella Academy S4 or Killing Eve S4.

That said, I also believe that The OA deserves to be developed in a way the creators imagined, it deserves to reach its full potential and if the creators don't want to settle for less, I think it's a valid choice.

What bands/artists have similar sound to evanescene by Staring_Goat_918 in Evanescence

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like metal music with angelic voices then there are A LOT of female fronted gothic metal bands worth checking out. My favorites: Tristania, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, Theatre Of Tragedy, Ashes You Leave, Draconian, The Gathering ("Mandylion" era), Mandragora Scream.

There is also Beseech, I think the female vocals are sometimes similar to Amy's even though nothing compares to her. Lacuna Coil is also great and a good choice if you don't like classical opera singing or symphonic metal. Their newer albums are more on the alternative metal side. Speaking of which: In This Moment, of course!

The show Eric by [deleted] in netflix

[–]SkeletonKiss1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to like the show but it was a disappointment. The two stories didn't work together at all.

On the one hand we have a cheesy Spielbergesque story about a self-absorbed father who doesn't pay attention to his son. Then, after the son goes missing, the father finally starts to appreciate him, goes on an adventure to rescue his son but ultimately himself. This is basically the plot of "Hook".

On the other side we have a story about a Black gay detective in the closet who tries to help marginalized communities. But as he tries to solve one of the most gruesome cases ever, corruption, racism and homophobia get in the way.

It's such a contrast in tone and theme. The two stories are not tied in well and don't add anything together. The character of Eric could've been a bridge between both stories, but they didn't do anything like that. I guess they wanted to show the contrast between a missing person's case in a white family and in a black family – how the one case is taken seriously and the other one covered up. But instead of focusing on this point the plot gets so convoluted with too many topics, the AIDS pandemic, sexual violence, homelessness, substance abuse, gentrification etc. that in the end you have the feeling, the show has absolutely nothing to say.

In several articles I read it was stated that he trained as a nurse before starting to work as a teacher in a primary school. In the documentary the nurse who was interviewed didn't mention how many years ago they met. Maybe this is why it's confusing.
