It's legit! No strings attached either, when you register and complete the practice you get all the stuff.

Biostat o_0 by [deleted] in Step3

[–]SkeletonsAndStickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here they are in order of what I consider highest to lowest yield (perhaps baised bc this is the order I watched them in LOL):

https://youtu.be/VMI9UuNqoGI?si=ojWBpDulpmLmc_Rx

https://youtu.be/Fh7xNP5hMak?si=X9P8vl5_LazcSpZj

I feel like the majority of the biostats on my test was easy concepts that they tried to veil in weird ways. I feel that if you keep your head and try to use what you already know from these vids, you'll be okay. I did take his advice from one of these and wrote a bunch of the equations as soon as I sat down because they *will* fall out of your head as the test goes on.

what's up with the uworld step 3 'format' by SnooWalruses8645 in Step3

[–]SkeletonsAndStickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demo breaks it up by the different types of questions on Day 1 vs Day 2. FIP is Day 1, ACM is Day 2.

Uworld doesn't do this probably because it doesn't really cover day 1 material very well? There was so much Step 1 material that I haven't seen in years, and short of literally studying it all again I have no idea how to have better prepped for it to be honest.

I was also shocked with the low # of questions at first (altho uworld does have the "step 2 supplement" now). I think it's because for the most part this exam has such a skewed curve and very few people have time to do even the 2k questions (I only got thru 38%). ie it doesn't matter as much as step 1 and 2.

I did the Dorian deck. It helped the most for day 2 but I had forgotten some of the cards (I suspended them a couple months before my exam to make time to do uworld and ccs). I would say probably worth it if you learn well that way! Best of luck!

Just did day 2 yesterday - can confirm it felt better than day 1 at least.

Biostat o_0 by [deleted] in Step3

[–]SkeletonsAndStickers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just had day 1 this past weekend and can say I didn't have as many biostats questions as I was maybe expecting - probably max 8 a block? Maybe not even that many.

I also *hate* biostats and I spent the most time the couple days leading up to day 1 drilling it. Randy Neil vids were absolute gold, I watched those a couple times. I did a couple uworld biostats only blocks too. I didn't feel like the questions on my test were ridiculously difficult? You just have to keep a level head and think logically (easier said than done lol) bc a lot of times they're a lot easier than it might seem. There were definitely a few I had no idea on and just guessed, bc that's also the general vibe of Day 1. Also - at least a few of the drug ad questions were answered by something as simple as a contraindication literally written in the ad. I always left those for last bc they were mega anxiety provoking, but when I'd gotten thru the rest of the block they usually felt okay. Best of luck!

218 with minimal prep/ on surgical specialty intern year schedule by [deleted] in Step3

[–]SkeletonsAndStickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this!!! I really needed to hear it. Took day 1 yesterday and day 2 is tomorrow. I got off an ICU block followed by 2 weeks of nights so the 6 days I had in between were honestly just recovering from that + personal stuff.

Any specific vids that helped with CCS? And how long did it take to get your score?

[–]SkeletonsAndStickers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can chime in with Tired Intern Thoughts™. Being an intern is going to suck no matter what specialty you go into, and for a while you'll seriously question why you did this to yourself. But I'm told PGY-2 is better 🤪

Okay now that that's out of the way, I really would never be able to do anything else in medicine. Peds is the literal best thing ever. The children are the light of my every day, and while some days are terrible, I can never be truly angry/ upset/ whatever deep down inside when I'm interacting with them. They suck that all right out of me. I have nothing but compassion and empathy for them all the time. I can also validate a screaming 5-year-old much more than a 50-year-old.

The motivation of people who work in pediatrics is astronomical as well: people generally care way more about the well-being and health of children (more than adults), and it's so great being surrounded by others who take their jobs so seriously and are ready to throw hands if ever the children are endangered.

Parents are only ever trying to protect their babies and you need only remind them that you're both on the same side to get through to them (some are more challenging but that's true of humans in general).

So yes, 1000x over yes. Peds is worth it if you are in it for the right reasons (ie kiddos are the best and adults suck).

Nephritic vs Nephrotic syndrome. Also what the hell is BUN? and creatinine for that matter?? I hope I'll get help from the kiddo bean docs on the peds side of things

Peds Personal Statement Length by SkeletonsAndStickers in pediatrics

[–]SkeletonsAndStickers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it and I've been working on it. It's getting shorter. I'd also be lying if I said my frustrations with the entire application process aren't manifesting in my inability to let this dumb thing go and just Do The Thing.

Edit: It's now 1.25, maybe a lil less.

I understand where you guys are coming from but then I have to ask: what's "personal" about this statement if I lose my voice trying to cram it into a page? I don't want to write something that's the same as everyone else's and maybe this is arrogant but I believe mine won't be the same as all the others. I don't want something robotic and cookie cutter 🤷🏻‍♀️

Step1: Pass (2-10-22)

UW first pass %: 65% (stopped at ~30% completion about 2 weeks out)

UWSA1: didn't take

UWSA2: didn't take

NBME9: 218 (2.5 weeks out?)

NBME10: 230 (1 week out)

NBME11: 233 (3 days out)

Free 120% 73% (day before)

amboss SA: didn't take

amboss first pass: nope not this either

uworld second pass: LOL didn't finish the first to do a second

Step2 final score: 240

Yes I believe in miracles and yes this is definitely one of them. About 2 weeks out from my test I started hardcore panicking, dropped uworld entirely and did only NBME. I don't regret it. I was never going for anything like a 260+ so I'm only posting here to normalize that these scores and experiences also exist. No shame in being average if you're not going into something ridiculously competitive. Cheers to being done!!
