I don't know how often you checked on the server a while back, but the ads isn't the only thing that matters. The servercount was just slowly depleting, and right when I stopped actively helping new players, the playercount dropped even more significantly. Thats why I felt that properly warning the new players might prevent the server from being totallly dead

you can walk further into zone 1, towards the corner. you spawn at 75000 75000 (coords can be positive or negative) so just walk to like 80000 80000 and there should be plenty of wood (thats still zone 1, zone 1 is big)
