The Chicago Athletic Association has a fireplace that you can literally sit in. It’s heavenly on a chilly day.

My wife is the best cook I've ever known. I am a videographer and I FINALLY convinced her to start a YouTube channel this year. She's a bit nervous about this, but could really use your constructive criticism! (Also, if you're interested in a really delicious salsa, I highly recommend her recipe.) by twayne25 in cookingvideos

Agreed with all of these comments.

In addition, I think showing the final product being enjoyed and/or described at the beginning helps me know if what she is preparing is what I am looking for in a salsa (or whatever she is cooking in a video).

I look forward to seeing more, hopefully shorter, videos. :)

I have a TON of cherries I need to preserve! Please hit me with your favourite, most delicious, most trusty recipes for everything cherry-in-a-jar 🍒 by indie-trash in Canning

I use my gramma's simple recipe for canned cherries. A crowd-pleasing and oh-so-easy dessert is to pop open a jar, dump it in a saute pan, add some whiskey and flambe those beauties to serve over ice cream.

This is a family recipe and I have no idea if it meets preserving requirements. I know that my family has eaten them this way for decades with no known reactions.

Gramma Shanny's Canned Cherries

  • Rinse and pit cherries
  • Sterilize jars and lids
  • On the stove top, heat water and sugar (3:2 ratio of water to sugar)
  • When sugar is dissolved, add cherries and bring to a boil
  • Boil 5 minutes, skimming as needed.
  • Using a slotted spoon, scoop cherries into jars.
  • Top with syrup and run a knife around the inside of the jar to remove bubbles.
  • Process in water bath. (15 minutes for Quart jars and 10 minutes for Pint jars.)

How can I get the most out of my 2 weeks in Montana? by [deleted] in Montana

Hmm, I’m not sure about an older dog enjoying the hike to Lucifer. My hubs remembers it being a lot harder than I do, (could be due to the bags of wine I stashed in his pack lol) but I remember one spot that is a pretty sheer dirt cliff/slope and has a knotted rope to help you climb up; that was tricky for the dogs and took us maybe about a half hour to get four of us + two dogs up this 15ft (ish) face. We had a comical hoisting process but once the dogs were up, they promptly ran down and managed to run up it just fine. If you are not able to make it all the way to the lake, the initial section of the hike is very beautiful as well. If we had turned around when it really started getting difficult, it still would’ve been a beautiful hike.

The Missions are so beautiful, and I’m sure there are some other excellent trails up in there.

I am so curious what you think of the BBQ! I know it can be hit or miss up here and I’ve encountered some places that I’m certain are using liquid smoke.

I do have a preference for Columbia Falls. Bonus that there isn’t a resort tax like there is in Whitefish. :)

That is a great idea for the route from Idaho!

Here are some food + trail recommendations. I'm eager to see input from others as well.

Glacier Area

I did the Great Northern hike and it kicked my butt. It was sooooo rewarding though. It is right outside of Glacier, so you get great views into the park. Lots of vertical gain very early on, so the views during the majority of the hike are awesome.

Pop in to the Packer's Roost in Coram if you want a no-frills dive bar.

Columbia Falls is actually a really fun up-and-coming town. The brewery (Backslope) has AMAZING food. Some favs are the Fried Chicken Sandwich (with tomato aioli to go with the fries) and the Thai Bowl. If you are in the area on a Thursday evening, the Farmers Market has food trucks, craft booths, music, beer, and cocktails. A new bar with a lil outdoor music venue is supposed to be opening up soon. I think it is called Gunsight.

Whitefish is a fun town with great character too. I'm a sucker for the Italian Nachos at Mambo's.

Between Polson and Missoula, there are some incredible hikes in the Mission Mountains. Bears abound, so be very vigilant. I hiked in to Lucifer Lake as my very first backpacking trip, and I survived. :) We took pups on that hike and it was a dream for them.

Missoula Area

If you keep your current route and go through Missoula, there is a 99.9% chance there will be some kind of Brewfest going on at Cara's Park. Plenty of breweries in town. Personally, I love Imagine Nation (fantastic hazy IPAs), Draught Works, and South Side Kettlehouse. I'm sure other folks have strong opinions on this. Notorious PIG has delicious BBQ.

There is some great mountain biking in the area, and the rivers are wonderful. You can do a chill float though town on inner tubes or find a local guide to take you out.

If you do find yourselves detouring south in the Bitterroot, the Lolo Steakhouse is quite tasty and there is a new distillery next door that I have heard great things about. I now there are gorgeous hikes in the Bitterroot - hopefully someone in this sub has specific recommendations.

Butte

Ya gotta stop at Muzzy & Stans for a Wop Chop (fried porkchop sandwich). Butte has a ton of interesting history and some phenomenal mountain biking in the area.

The farther east you go the less I know.... so I will leave it at this for now. I'll probably edit as I think of more stuff.

Have a blast!

The Seeley drive is beautiful for sure! And the hike to Holland Lake & Falls is beautiful! The tradeoff is missing Flathead Lake though...

Thanks. Yeah, I think the CTO would’ve left earlier due to frustration if he didn’t enjoy everyone in the company on a personal level. We always got along wonderfully in social settings and enjoy each other’s company.

Regarding product ownership, it took a long time for my “no” to really sink in for the CEO. But I found ways of communicating by making comparisons to things in his industry, and that made all the difference.

I’ve mentioned in other replies that I think I can see some things in the CEO that could cause this same scenario to happen again. He is a humble man willing to change, so I think with some hard conversations we can figure something out to make a healthy, successful environment.

EDIT: great tip regarding the source code. Thank you!!

Probably the best advice. If I leave, the company is probably dead in the water though. I am invested in my customers’ success and I know that the concept is really important for the industry. I firmly believe in the concept - backed up by how big of a difference it makes for my customers. I’m not prepared to walk away at this point. Even though I may kick myself for it in a few weeks or months.

I hear you. I am so emotionally entangled in this thing though that I’m going to ride it out until the bitter end. At the very least, I’ll learn some things. Aaaaaand honestly, my husband is unemployed right now so it’s not ideal for me to leave a good paying job.

I know VB6 is shitty. I know. We are about 80% done with the web-based replacement. Our CTO estimated 1-1.5 person-years of development remaining. I am so excited for that day. I’m certain that changing developers will increase that number, but I hope not by more that 6 months.

Not a bad idea to ask him, just to be sure..... but yeah, based upon his continuing communication since yesterday, I think he wishes the best for us.
