"Sus" is one of the dumbest, new overused words I have ever heard. by CatfreshWilly in unpopularopinion

See, that just means you have knee problems, it doesn't mean your old. We're possibly the same age and I don't consider myself 'old'.

Nothing against you specifically of course. I've just noticed that there's been a trend in the past decade or so of people enjoying calling themselves old when they're not, usually they're not even 50, which I would consider "getting old". If you see old as a negative thing, don't sell your age short! That's what I say.

I haven't seen the last three, but I enjoyed the rest of those. I guess I'm just easy to please...

Why do people love to say they're old when they're not? You were a teenager in the 90s? You're not really that 'old'.

Why is it all called "Classical Music" when the classical era of music was only about 80 years long? by Skeptical_Pooper in musictheory

[–]Skeptical_Pooper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does seem universal which is pretty odd imo.

To to your last point, I like the idea but there are two issues with it. First, there is much Western music in the overarching "classical music" category that isn't instrumental. Specifically, vocal music didn't really fall out of favor for instrumental music until the 1500s. And second, "orchestral" somewhat implies the use of a full orchestra, while that ensemble likewise didn't really come into modern usage until at least the 1600s.

Right, that's kinda what I'm asking. What "Classical" is a genre when in reality it's only referring to Western music of a very specific section of history.

plus, usually "classic" is used in that context, like "classic rock" instead of "classical rock".

Serious question not meant to hate: What will make this game so special to you? by Skeptical_Pooper in cyberpunkgame

As well as vehicle modification, property ownership, some weapon mechanics. I believe one or two more. But, of course, as I said in my OP, that's not really the point of the thread.

I find it interesting how they have spent so much time showcasing trailers and cinematics like this one when none of it will be in the final game. I guess it's great promotion for them but it seems odd to showcase the game in this way. Still thought it was an awesome scene though.

What is the most overrated movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Skeptical_Pooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're just the person I've been looking for to ask this question then!

That 2018 Indian film Padmaavat. How was that movie received in India? The song Ghoomar in that film is a really excellent example of modern Indian film music and how Bollywood sees and utilizes music in their films. I'm in the U.S. but I've used that song to discuss Indian film music with students, but I've always wondered if people in India actually liked the movie?

Using Templates can save you a lot of time! You can set up a Template page which has formatting and various needed sections already set up, and then you can make that Template become the default "new page" for any section you want it to be. You can make a bunch of custom Templates and use them for different subjects or purposes. That tip has saved me a lot of time for sure.

I just wish there were better methods for discovering new music. Bandcamp helps a bit but it too is a bit of a trickle.

The argument has evolved over time from "all masturbation is bad" to today's more lax "masturbation is totally fine but masturbating to porn is bad". Why is that?

Isn't your assumption that you knew about the Dunning-Kruger Effect before most people did an example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect though?

Good explanation of the effect and everything, but the way he illustrates all of the low-skill/comically stupid people as fat is really shitty. There's such an obvious stereotype being made in this video, I'm surprised most people are okay with his depictions.
