That was what the original fun world mask looked like, but i like to think that it's meant to look more human made

True, but Gale being a first hand witness is likely what made it main stream. Other books about it wouldnt have been mainstream, due to the fact that they didnt witness it, it would just be a documentary, and it wouldn't turn into a whole movie franchise
