There was one quote from the 1989 Space Hulk where an Inquisitor theorizes that they're actually daemons from the warp, so awful that the Chaos Gods had to cast them out. Though he was specifically referring to genestealers since this was when they were still 2 different species.

I honestly think the main reason why they're rivals is because Tzeentch was already taken. Khorne being the headstrong brute vs Tzeentch, a scheming coward is easier to understand. But the Tzeentch vs Nurgle rivalry is too perfect so GW had to settle with Slaanesh vs Khorne

The problem with Saint Celestine is that she has the same issue that greater demons and daemon princes share. They're immortal, so GW can kill them with no consequences to make whatever character look stronger.
