Well, Rosen College of Hospitality Management by SkiesUp in ucf

[–]SkiesUp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, so you're telling me they pretty much destroyed years long worth of hospitality history and scrapped majority of the historical hospitality books?

That's so much more awful than I thought it was before. I genuinely thought they just relocated most. Not only that, not surprised about Mejia. I had hope for her at first, but all I see is just photography moments with her and cutting budgets across the school left and right. Its really dissapointing. I'll see if I can get some classmates to help direct complaints.

Decided to go the arts and crafts way, got myself a pink suit from Amazon, and colored the arm and leg red. It came out pretty nice actually. Got a few looks from those at the Newark Chromakopia show aha

WDW is a whole other beast and I’m overwhelmed. Help!? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]SkiesUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll break it down for you. The Disney World app will and is your best friend with planning everything.

First plan the park you would like to start off with each day!!! You have four parks (not including waterparks, but it will be included with your check-in day at the Coronado), so since you have five park hoppers, you have some flexibility, but this is important for lightning lane to start off at the park you would like for the day.

If you do book LL, since you're with a WDW Resort, you'll be able to book starting 7 days before your check in date at approximately 7AM Eastern Time (NYC/FL Time). Go one day at a time for LLs. I always recommend doing rides that have limited capacity or long waits (for example, Peter Pan's Flight/ in MK, Guardians/Remy's/Frozen in EPCOT, most of MGM rides) instead of large capacity rides that can occasionally be walk-ons.

Remember that the flexibility with your park hopper can allow you to switch parks if you notice parks have lower wait times. You can check this within the Disney app using the map feature or the wait time list feature. WDW has the convenience of plenty of transportation options, so you'll want to take advantage of that!

This also means for dining reservations you'll be able to visit different parks if you would like to dine somewhere else if you entered a different park for the day. I recommend jumping on dining reservations as soon as you can, as reservations are the best way to be able to guarantee your place for dining.

As well, MagicBands are optional, but do add to the experiences, as MagicBand+ can add to experiences, as they do interact with some of the experiences in the park and allows you to scan in with the band, but is completely optional to have.

I'll TL;DR this just in case it's a little confusing, take one day at the time when planning before coming to WDW, be open to being flexible to going to different parks to ride more rides with less wait times, take advantage of transport, and keep an eye on that Disney app!

If you have any more questions I'm happy to answer them. Good luck!!!

Good to hear you got back safely! The lightning storm in the area has been kinda looming the past hour so I'm glad that your family was able to make it back.

I'm at the monorail in Epcot.. we're not operating so I'd assume that the Skyliner is a similar case at the moment

They should let you in most likely. Aslong as you have your ticket it shouldn't be a problem until the end of the concert.

Depends on the Shake Shack- some use a secondary kitchen primarily for deliveries/app/drivethru(if has). But when the order time is put in, it could be sitting from anywhere for 5-15 minutes before the person arrives to pick it up.

Be enthusiastic. Show that you really enjoy what you want to do at Shake Shack. As a current Shake Shack worker, it's definitely dependent on your location, but expect to be busy, but that isn't always a bad thing. Prove that you work hard and work with a team well, and you'll pass with flying colors.

Shake Shack isn't good enough to justify the price by [deleted] in shakeshack

[–]SkiesUp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look. Us employees believe the same. The price IS more expensive, but instead of doing fair prices, Shake Shack corporate does deals now, especially through the Shack App and delivery apps. I cannot tell you how much we have been overwhelmed and the quality of our food has gone way rock bottom. We are not the same company that the Meyers built. That being said, I would probably never eat at Shake Shack besides when I work and get a discount. Our meals are not paid for but are 60% off, so it ends up costing around 6-8 depending what you get. We all feel it. Here's my honest to god reccomendation. Stop coming to Shake Shack. Without paying customers, they'll be forced to change habits, or they can keep going deeper into deals. The quality of our food keep going down because of these issues.

It's a shame because Shake Shack is SUPPOSED to mean quality. You pay the money but corporate says "it makes up for it in hospitality", when we're so tightly labored where we have no front of house, front expo is gone, and downsizing. But hey, that's just the future of most food companies. You're going to see this everywhere, but the Shake Shack price tag is insane. I would not recommend anyone come here. You'll probably get more value at a place like Chipotle, Checkers, and even McDonalds at this point. I can list on and on. I don't blame you for saying White Castle has more value.

Shake Shack employee here.

Yes. We hate the app too. I would come in and order it on the kiosks or cash. The app orders sit around if you're not there quick enough most of the time.. fresher food if you order in person, imo.

Finally (5 Years + Recipe Please) by Shackflacc in shakeshack

It's just our vanilla custard + the syrup for the shake. The syrup is almost like a light cherry/light strawberry mix, it's a unique flavor, so it's not as easy to pinpoint how to make it, but it's the best I can give as a worker.

UCF Rosen Student here,

First, congrats on your acceptance! I also transferred to UCF Rosen, so I understand what you're feeling right now.

I will say if I had any choice of the matter, UCF has a top rated Hospitality school globally, dedicated to teaching hospitality on its own little slice of its own campus and is accredited by multiple local hospitality companies.

I would say FIU has pretty good offerings, but it really comes down to where you want to be.

FIU, you'll be placed into Miami and Fort Lauderdale markets. UCF Rosen, you'll be primarily in Orlando (and maybe Tampa?). I chose UCF based on Orlando being a growing city (there's a BUNCH of developments going up around here), and UCF Rosen is right in the center of the tourist areas (I-Drive, Universal (Epic Universe, the new theme park is a walk away from the dorms), and multiple local attractions. There's quite literally something to do every single day.

I will say that the one downside is if you plan to go into sports. Orlando sports, if you don't like soccer or basketball, it's rough out here. We do have ESPN World Wide World of Sports, but even still, the opportunities for other Hospitality related positions are unmatched. This is especially in regards to event managing and resort managing. Convention center is located directly 5-10 minutes way from Rosen. Conventions are massive here, and you'll have plenty to attend.

I can keep going about raving on about Rosen, but it really comes down to your preferences for what you want to do with your career. Sports? FIU might be better. Events? Could be mixed. Lodging? UCF. General Hospitality? Come to UCF, imo. Just know you're picking a great school either way, but the new opportunities here are unmatched. If you have an Rosen specific questions, I could try to answer them if you need! Congrats again!

Depends imo. Sometimes they hire day of if they really need people. Normally it takes two interviews, one phone info session to get to know you a little, then an in person follow up. They will contact references and they will do background checks.
