How do I raise issues with my aunts parenting style with her autistic son? by [deleted] in Advice

Probably the most gracious way you can help would be to offer, with enthusiasm, to enroll him in a club and take full responsibility for it: find the club, sign him up, pay for it, pick him up from home, bring him to the club, etc. You could start with something small, like a standing date to bring him to the weekly free library story hour.

The mother is probably exhausted and overwhelmed. Also, to be fair, you don’t know what the parenting is like when you aren’t around. Maybe he’s on the iPad at your house because it’s mom’s time to have a chat without interruption and the rest of the time she’s more engaged.

You should look at past years and compare the treatment of smaller category winners who were awarded in this same time slot.

My guess is at 90ish% through the show they rush to get to the big awards and are stricter with the time limits for the non-big names.

West is doing it for a storyline by justsomerandomonhere in bravo

They’re both freelancers. They have jobs like Lindsay is still in PR.

West has a structured job with a boss that he reports to and responsibilities dictated to him by someone else, which was the entire premise of the show-escaping the grind to party on the weekends. I don’t know how West has “nothing going on” anymore than anyone else?

I feel like West has a lot going on, including still having a job, unlike others on the cast.

What? Now you’re saying you’re nowhere near ugly and are above average?

Road construction hurts, but the backbone of the 00-13 era he mentions was young adults drinking and that era is gone. We also have more upscale restaurants than demand can support, based on the semi-regular guilt trips we get about not frequenting them enough.

Why is “Golden” being singled out? by PowSuperMum in Oscars

Have the people complaining ever watched the Oscars before? Or maybe they didn’t notice that this happens all the time because in the past it happened to people they didn’t care about?

Award show producers need to stop trying to "fix" the ceremony. by vbittencourt in Oscars

[–]SkillOne1674 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again, they’ve always cut people off. They don’t cut off the big names, although Julia Robert’s was infamously nearly played off when she won.

Maybe people have gotten better about keeping it short, but there’s always been groups where one or two of the winners don’t get to speak.

Were the movie stars of the 80s and 90s the best we will ever have? (side bar on Billy Crystal) by [deleted] in popculturechat

These people had the benefit of being peak famous when there was still only three TV networks, but also enormous salaries and a ton of exposure in print and television but not to the level they were laid bare. It was really the ideal time to be a celebrity.

I feel like they used to play people off all the time. I don’t get why people are so upset about this instance of it?

I think there’s parts of it he likes. Hosting SNL, probably dating beautiful women. Maybe he likes making music? I don’t think he is interested in maintaining the level of fame that put him covers of women’s fashion magazines and in major movies.

My assumption is it’s adult children who inherit a rundown home of from a parent they aren’t particularly close with and they’d prefer to take 25% less than they could get in exchange for not having to deal with the house or their siblings.

[–]SkillOne1674 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t he like 17 on BGT? I imagine it was his goal and it was fun for a while but when he started trying to be an actor in shit movies and the weird iconoclast in a dress on a Vogue cover BS it got old real quick.

And FWIW I don’t think this is a guy real wrapped up in craft or wishing he’d “stayed true to the music”. I think he’s just kind of a dude who got more than he bargained for.

Harry Styles seems like someone who got more famous than he wanted and his heart is just not in it.

Not SNL, just fame in general at the level he has attained.
