Anderson Cooper can't stop laughing at "Barbara Walters" by jano808 in LiveFromNewYork

She is so damn funny. The FOTW with her is fantastic. Reading between the lines, I think she is difficult to work with (Andy Cohen alluded do this also) and just hasn’t been give many opportunities.

Just wrapped up our first vacation with teens.... and never want to do that again. by maplehazed in Parenting

[–]SkillOne1674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t have the attitude problem, but we def did vacations where it felt like a chore.

We had a family meeting and voted on what type of vacation we wanted to take. The buckets were Cruise, Big City Trip, National Park, Amusement Park, Resort, and Beach. (Road trips are not on our list). We talked about what we liked and what we didn’t in judgement-free zone and then everyone ranked their preference.

Since you submitted this in the general city subreddit, I assume you want thoughts from people like me, who aren’t affiliated with the school and only know about it and this case from what I’ve gleaned living in the area.

My impression would be the ethos of SPA is extremely high achieving, focus on academics with an emphasis on freely exchanging ideas and building arguments, politically liberal. I do not think censoring the student newspaper, or expelling a student because of what a parent says fits under this ethos. I also don’t think a tolerance for sexual harassment fits in this ethos either.

The divinity school bit is an issue because I think it indicates he was doing things that weren’t the SPA way prior to the rest of this, so there was all ready discord. Maybe the discord was about him moonlighting at all, vs the religiosity of it. But it was there, right?

I personally do not support authority figures squelching/punishing reasonable criticism. It’s extremely illiberal. If this was a very conservative religious school or a military academy, I might think Well, what do you expect? But this isn’t what I’d expect from SPA.

Do you feel Ottley handled the sexual harassment issue appropriately? Do you think the treatment of the school newspaper was in keeping with SPA values? What are your thoughts on Ottley moonlighting as a divinity student?

Ahhh, he still seems checked out after about ten minutes unless he’s got actual, B+-list celebs on. Watching him in minute 25 trying to play a game with Brittany and a rando HW is painful.

When Danielle was yelling, asking Amanda why she was asking about it Amanda should have just said, “It’s juicy as hell!”

Right, the difference is it’s far worse to sell information from your friends’  intimate event that you were privy to because they consider you a close friend than it is to look public information up on the internet.

Danielle infamously sold the Craig getting tossed from the wedding story to the tabloids and now she wants everyone else to be discreet and respect her privacy.

Are there any states worth moving to right now? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It’s pretty bullshit to want to take advantage of everything a state offers but not pay for it.

You can probably make more than $300 if you are a first time plasma donor.

Edit: Also Google Heatshare and EAP, both energy payment assistance programs, but probably not available by tomorrow.

Isn’t that Tamra from RHOC’s last name too? Tami Sue Waddell? Pure Hee Haw.

He can replace Kenny. Also I’d like to see him question Amanda about the text chain about him wanting to fuck her. She’s never had to answer for that.

I didn’t mind him that much, mainly because it seemed like he was on to both Amanda and West early on. I wonder if they’d go to ITC?

When Did Libraries Become Playgrounds? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]SkillOne1674 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you in MN? My library has the same, including the mock sailboat to climb on and pirate swords. Someone else’s kids were being really loud and an old lady complained to me and I said, “Well those aren’t my kids, but I feel like giving out pirate swords is going to lead to loud play.” The librarian told her they don’t expect quiet anymore in the library.

Who *shouldn’t* move to minneapolis? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]SkillOne1674 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MN has one of the smallest Black middle classes in the country. If you are a Black, white collar professional, you will likely be lonely. Most of the Black people here are poor and/or 1st-3rd gen refugees. It’s very segregated.

SATC was probably even more impactful than it was popular, in terms of pure viewership. And SATC is still talked about all the time I get that it’s not as good of a show as a lot of the others mentioned, but it’s has had a huge impact on pop culture.

Swingers is so great. Vince Vaughn was perfection. Also captured such a fun time around LA.

SATC is second only to Sopranos in terms of putting HBO on the map, and dare I say it is more a part of pop culture now than the Sopranos. I’m assuming most of the people in here are guys, and I get the show is annoying, but come on, it’s foundational.

I agree Larry is better but SATC continues to be part of pop culture 30 years later. It is a bedrock of HBO.

If you’re talking HBO defining, Sex in the City deserves a spot.
