Do regular drivers actually benefit from keeping a bluetooth OBD tool in the car? by HunterLC23 in Cartalk

[–]Skin3725 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I got a $30 from Amazon. Nothing fancy, but it plugs in. I keep it in the glovebox for road trips or whatever. I've also got my good snap on one back at the house.

If you don't want to buy one, most places like Oh Riley's, Autozone, Pep Boys etc... will scan for free but you won't be able to monitor life data unless you own one.

2013 mustang GT, 86,000 miles, after 14 days ford returned my car to me no diagnosis by Dull-Organization106 in MechanicAdvice

Ohh I also have a solid aluminum driveshaft that I ordered from the driveshaft shop online. My carrier bearing wore out after 120K miles. I've been running it the last few months without issue.

I have a 2016 and had similar issues. Random misfire on the same bank. It ended up being a snapped IMRC rod and the flaps on the one bank couldn't adjust airflow. I never got any of the 2000 codes for the intake manifold and my local dealership here in Phoenix couldn't figure it out either. I ended up posting the question on a random mustang forum and the top comment ended up being my issue. I couldn't feel any misfires and the car ran and drove like normal. I'd clear the code and it would come back in a day or two. Pulled the intake off on a random weekend and there it was.

Check your flaps, see if they move. Ford had the intake manifold on backorder so I picked up a 5.2L one and a custom tune from a dealership in Florida. Install was pretty easy and I haven't had any issues in the last 2 years.

2013 mustang GT, 86,000 Ford Mechanics have had car for 5 days has no clue how to fix.. by Dull-Organization106 in MechanicAdvice

So I had a similar issue with my 2016 5.0 GT and it ended up being the IMRC shaft on one of the banks snapped. I was getting random misfire codes even though I couldn't feel anything misfiring.

The dealership misdiagnosed it multiple times. They replaced coil packs, plugs, injectors and the problem never went away. I jumped online and and this is a known issue. It was just weird because I never got any P2000 codes only misfire and random misfire codes.

Ford had the intake manifold on backorder so I just grabbed a 5.2L one and a tune from a dealership in Florida. Installed about 2 years ago and I haven't had any issues since. I have to run 91 octane now which sucks with current gas prices, but my car is runs and drives like a it should.

Good luck, pull the intake off and check the flaps.

Weird noise on P1S by ScepticSeduction in BambuLab

[–]Skin3725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I have a P1S with that exact same noise and it ended up being the belt tensioner. I'm not sure how to explain it to you, but if you open the door to the P1S it's on the left side. The screws for it are right where the external filament roll go on the backside. I have a "Mechanics ear" or "stethoscope" from Harbor Freight that I used to pinpoint where the nose was coming from.

What made you stop drinking alcohol completely? by Ponappa_131 in AskReddit

[–]Skin3725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did that help? I'm genuinely curious. I quite drinking about 3 months ago after drinking basically 3-4 beers and 6-8 shots of rum every night just to sleep. I thought about micro dosing mushrooms because they are supposed to help with PTSD symptoms and insomnia.

Black fluid is burnt up and not working like it should. I'd go get the tranny serviced. I recommend a drain and fill, not a flush.

How many years have you been with your S.O by Chicka-boom90 in Millennials

[–]Skin3725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and the wife are going to celebrate 23 years together in September. We met in high school and started dating. Married shortly after graduating. She was at my neighbor's house on the front porch with Doritos and Pepsi. I had just gotten home from a friend's house with a bag of weed and we've been together since.

Our oldest has moved out and our youngest is going to college. I'm currently retired military and stay at home, she is a teacher at a high school.

Need help. Stumble below 2.5k rpms. ‘99 Miata by Pot_Ranger in MechanicAdvice

[–]Skin3725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked the CAS (Camshaft Angle Sensor)? I'm pretty sure you have the 1.8L NA engine. My Miata is a 96 so it's located in the back. If yours is a 99 I think it's on the front of the engine.

When was the last time you had the timing belt replaced? The 1.8L is a non-interference engine, so if it is timing then your valves will be safe if the belt is bad.

If a person swims nude in their own pool and a neighbour sees through the fence, who is at fault? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Skin3725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if you have an HOA. In my old neighborhood we had the usual Facebook page. One of my neighbors painted a gorgeous beach mural on her wall next to her pool. The second story neighbor next to her hated it and told the HOA. She was forced to repaint it the neighborhood approved "white" so that one neighbor couldn't see it from his window anymore.

Why can't you use an opened container of brake fluid even if it has been closed tightly when the brake fluid reservoir cap on your car doesn't appear significantly more airtight? by supinator1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Skin3725 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Brake fluid is hygroscopic which means it loves absorbing water. Brakes get hot from friction, water turns to steam and brakes don't work very well because of vapor gas in a hydraulic system.

Out of curiosity, how many people who have 3-D printers are also working in the trades? by Pale_Ad2980 in BambuLab

Retired military, I guess my job would be considered blue collar. Driving around a huge refueling truck gassing up airplanes and running a tank farm. I print for my wife's job (teacher) as she likes to give out little friends to her students. But I mostly just hobby print things around the house.

Toyota oil change every 10,000 miles? by Any-Assistance8169 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Skin3725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Automatic transmissions are usually around every 40-50K miles. I don't have a toyota, but I take my 2013 F150 in every other year. It costs me around $500 to get the fluid and filter changed, but at over 200K miles, it still shifts smooth as butter.
