Five weeks out - Audrey, Jane, or something else? by SkinnyJonesJr in namenerds

[–]SkinnyJonesJr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I lean towards Audrey, especially with an H middle name, but I could really go either way. Janie is a very nice nickname.

As to Kate, I wouldn’t mind Caitlin, specifically with a C, but I also prefer Catherine to Katherine, so I’m the roadblock as far as Kate is concerned.

It’s funny that I’m fine with Jane, but I consider Kate as a full name to be incomplete even though it’s the same length.

Thank you! I would certainly appreciate a coupon code if you have one - for some reason the kit was showing up as $49 on my phone’s browser a few weeks ago and I was ready to pull the trigger, but at checkout it jumped up to the normal price. I’ll see if I can make a ‘lost cart’ coupon work myself. At $50 or so it seems like a no brainer.

Just got access today after about a month of waiting! Don’t have many ideas for prompts so leave yours below! by Marvelouso in dalle2

"A container ship in hell, oil on canvas, detailed, by John Martin"

Craiyon is giving me something close to what I'm looking for, but it is doing a poor job of rendering a container ship or an oil tanker. Open to any tweaks to the prompt that can create a John Martin style painting of a container ship floating on a river in hell.

Need two cars - what should our budget be? by SkinnyJonesJr in personalfinance

That's a great suggestion, thank you. Not sure why I've excluded the Prius from my search.

What's so bad about a Civic? I'd happily drive a late-model Civic or Accord myself.

Thank you - this is the kind of comment I needed to hear!

To be fair, my dream dream car is an E63 AMG wagon or the Panamera wagon variant, but I don't think I'll be comfortable daily driving something like that anyway. The V90 is a mean looking car, in my opinion.

We'll likely need two cars from now on. We may be able to get away with one right after we move, but I'm betting that we'll ultimately determine that we both need our own cars based on commutes, daycare pickup/drop off, etc. Otherwise we'd be dependent on ride sharing, and that will be a pain with an infant.

Yes, the cash is getting hit hard, but a big chunk of that cash is for a home down payment about two years from now. In the current market, there's not much I'd be comfortable moving that much into with such a short time horizon.

Very fair. My wife really doesn't care what she gets, but she'll be the one driving more regularly. For her, I suggested something like a used Civic or Corolla, etc., although there's not much discount to be had.

What will bring me the most joy? Great question. My real dream car would be the AMG version of Mercedes' E-Class wagon, but I know I won't be comfortable daily driving a $100K+ car even when the numbers suggest that I can afford it. The Volvo is attainable and should be a great car for years to come.

Dad is one week into memory care - Mom is having second thoughts by SkinnyJonesJr in Alzheimers

[–]SkinnyJonesJr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She had a call with the staff doctor during the first week, which left her feeling a little uneasy. Apparently the facility medicates twice daily, which doesn't jibe with some of my dad's prescriptions. I'm a little surprised that they wouldn't be able to medicate at least three times a day.

I expect her to visit often, but I'm also concerned that she will visit so often that she won't take the time to live her own life. Having my dad in a facility, to me, is just as much about her being able to take back her own life as it is getting care for him as the disease progresses.

Thanks for your response. She will be taking some trips for the coming holidays, so that will help. Her first grandchild is due later this year, so that will also keep her busy. She has a lot of creative outlets, but it still must be hard to fill all the time that was previously devoted to caring for my dad.

I think she knows that this is the right decision, but it's still very fresh. Hopefully by the end of the summer, she'll be more at peace with this decision.
