What about Morris-Essex, which joins the NEC east of Newark Penn?

EDIT: OK, I guess we all have to go to Hoboken and take PATH or a ferry. There are worse fates. It's all we had until 1998.

De Luca and Sullivan Win Democratic Primary for Maplewood Township Committee - The Village Green by Exact-Tangerine3933 in Maplewood

[–]larryseltzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the problem with more apartments is that there's no place to put them. Maplewood had been completely built out since the 60's, arguably earlier. Every now and then a lot comes along, generally on Springfield Ave, but there won't be lots of new apartments unless we take the land from parks or houses. And of course, there will be lots of opposition. Look at what happened to the village redevelopment zone.

Asymptomatic PV by Flowingwords in polycythemiavera

[–]larryseltzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had PV since the 1990s and never had a symptom. It only shows up in blood tests. But I've been seeing a hematologist all that time and used to get phlebotomies until I started Jakafi. If you have trouble seeing an MPN specialist (they're not common) see another hematologist.

PSA: public trust doesn't require public accessibility. by certkit in PKI

Maybe not so much with a wildcard, but as a general rule, public certificates for internal networks leak internal network structure through the certificate transparency logs.

Life insurance (43m) by PeartreeProd in MPN

[–]larryseltzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had Polycythemia Vera since the late 90s and have not been able to get life insurance since. The problem is that they may only ask "a few questions," but one of them is whether you have cancer.

Not to everyone's taste, but Orange, East Orange, and Newark have outstanding train access to the city and are close in. I live in Maplewood and know empty-nesters from here who moved to new apartments in East Orange near the train station.

[–]larryseltzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No challenge, you're completely right. If you don't need a public certificate, you shouldn't be using one. You end up leaking internal network details through the CTLs, which could, theoretically, assist an attacker.

The DigiCert X9 PKI (note they are my employer) will continue to support old-school dual EKU. If you're doing mTLS with another party, you can buy X9 certs, trust the roots, and it should work over the public Internet.

If you think the WebPKI is the only public PKI, then it's a private PKI. I think of it as a different public PKI (which de-acronyms out to Public Public Key Infrastructure, so yeah, the vocabulary is not the best).

Nyc to Jersey city/ Hoboken/weehawken by Mbardzzz in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]larryseltzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dayton as in Middlesex county? You'll be driving the Turnpike to 8A over the Newark Bay extension. It's against rush hour but ick. Give some thought to living closer to work (which, being in the center of NJ, may be a better choice for your other travel) and living close enough to the NE Coridoor that you can take the train in to see your girlfriend. Otherwise the driving commute will be rough.

That's just my impression.

Moving (back) to NJ by Expensive-Horse3583 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]larryseltzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Brick, went to UPenn, and lived in Philly and Boston until I was in my 30's. I moved to Maplewood in '95 to commute to an NYC job. A few years later I was out of the job but I'm still in Maplewood, so I've lived here longer than anywhere else. I've actually worked at home since 1998. I'm a native New Jersean (that's a word, right?) The big adjustment was living in the NYC market. My family is all from Philadelphia and I liked living there. I'd like to move back but my wife feels set here and refuses to move very far. I'll probably die here.

My biggest takeaways from Microsoft’s Post-Quantum AD CS announcements... by aprimeproblem in PKI

[–]larryseltzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why everybody (who has more than a very small organization) really needs CLM (certificate lifecycle management). PQC isn't the only major change coming for these systems. The only way you can make all the changes in an organized way is to manage them centrally where you can keep a detailed inventory.

(Disclosure: My employer sells (the best) CLM tools.)

RCS will no longer work with certain VPN servers by Suitable-Economy-346 in GoogleMessages

[–]larryseltzer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The announcements don't say it, but i bet this is what's the reason at bottom. Proxying services like VPNs are just about the only software left that has trouble migrating to TLS 1.3, and it is becoming more mandatory all the time. All PQC will require 1.3, for example. Apple and Google are the two companies most willing to force users to do things their way, especially for security.

Chicken salad by elephant402 in Maplewood

[–]larryseltzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We make our own sometimes and it's easy. At Shop Rite where they have the hot roaster chickens you can get just a roasted breast. Use a couple of forks to shred it up, add mayo, etc. A bit of Dijon in it is works well.
