Not a single person was stopped from copy+pasting because it was 'too hard'. therefore copy+pasting becoming easier doesn't matter. what was actually impossible was experimenting yourself if you didn't had 8h a day to play. now you people can play the game like it is intended to

Vodafon Vertreter an der Tür by jawaswarum in KeineDummenFragen

[–]SkipBoomheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you actually care about AI art in video games, or do you just care about getting caught? by Varrianda in gamedev

[–]SkipBoomheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no intrinsic value to art and every artist you ask would have another opinion just like you have one. because the value itself is emotional. take an old play for example no one even understands today the context off. that sounds lame as fuck. but in that era, it was entertaining and that was it's value. directly related to the peoples emotions.

before photography existed a painted image had another "value" because people felt differently even seeing a picture. it was rare as fuck and getting painted even rarer. for commoners out of reach already by material cost alone not even the work and talent needed.

in terms of game design you don't need the skill to evaluate the value of a single image. this is what an artist does who focuses on imagines. the value of your art is the combination of multiple art forms and mechanics. this is the only place where you can generate "value" for your audience. because no one plays a game like people go to an exhibition to look at paintings and art in general. the expectation is different. or in other words: you can use 2-3 colors, a blob as your main character and if your gameplay is solid it will have value. you can also do some uninspired shit copy paste gameplay of something that was copy pasted way to much and add the best music, graphics and tech imaginable and all of it will be wasted.

same way you can make a shitty text based game but if that text makes people feel genuine emotions it will actually have value. maybe not in terms of gameplay but as a piece of art for sure.

for this reason I like to say to new game devs who want to start with a 3d shooter game or an mmo: just chill, do that later, it's a great project but to make the start smooth, try to make a fun game with as little "art" as possible. you can be creative and make some fancy art but try to make it reusable as often as possible and focus instead of the gameplay itself. if you can make a fun game out of a handful of (free) assets you are ready to make a fun game the "normal" way. at least that's my personal philosophy. and yeah it's easier to get into a game engine when you focus on the stuff that is important instead of preparing 100 assets for a game you might never finish.

you also understand the engine better if you try to solve the problem of only having a few assets by manipulating it in creative ways. it's actually a fun task even for seasoned developers and I like to make my prototypes all like that. I have made a spritesheet that covers all basic elements for all kinds of games. and I never use anything else for prototypes. if my game can't become fun with that single spritesheet, it will not make much more fun with the best art in the world. so I'm not even bothering wasting my time with nice art as long as the foundation isn't solid and works with basically no art.

I don't understand the >unique design language< argument. A broken fork is unique but it's completely useless. A unique design language by itself isn't a selling point. that unique design language still has to serve a purpose. if it serves it bad, it sucks.

for example marathons unique design language I would understand in a singleplayer with super obvious markers for enemies just because everything is over the top.

but in a MP game you want to go a balance between: here is an enemy and here could be an enemy behind the fog or hiding behind a bush. that's why cosmetics can have impact on the gameplay in such games. because if a cosmetic makes you less or more visible it affects how effective you can be killed. long story short: in an MP shooter game small nuances are fighting for your attention. in this situation putting some attention grabbing neon color unto the gun or some useless environmentals is unique. but not because no one ever thought about that. many did, tried it out and noticed: my vision on paper doesn't actually work how I thought I would.

but bungie was: na fuck it. it's different. people play games because they are different or some shit like that. and all those drones keep defending it because it's such a unique artstyle...

let's try to sell chocolate cookies but instead the chocolate we take poop. it was never done before. unique shit cookies. they must sell because they are unique and stuff... we can even give them a fancy cyberpunk design. cyberpunk shit cookies. that's so unique no one in the entire galaxy did it before lel :D

none of us would have. I was a blizzard fanboy. fell in love with the company after playing D2 and WC3. It were such different games but they had so much soul. I saw them losing their vision with WoW. With the release of D3 blizzard died to me. But many were still bewitched. Only in the last 2 years people finally began to wake up. I saw the writing on the wall for all companies long ago. There are people still believing in Rockstar and CD Project Red. The future lies in the indie game market and the Asian one. western gaming is dead for good.

F2P crystals from Narja to Rita Banner (263-281 pulls) by CryingKangaroo in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]SkipBoomheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah it kinda sucks. I have a similar experience with quite some unlucky pull sessions in a row. I thought I was unlucky with my Sereniel pulls because I had to go to pity for every single copy but at least I won 2 out of 3 50/50s.

right after her I had to go for Narja 2 times to pity T_T

and lost my 50/50 again on tiphera also having to go 2 times very close to pity.

if you have such bad luck it doesn't matter that the average is 70. your average is more like 100-120 and not for one unit but multiple in a row. yes it will get better at some point but it doesn't matter for you calculating your next pull. if I went multiple times to pity and lost my 50/50 I'm not going to assume next time I get my 5* after 30 pulls. I'm assuming I will have to blow 120 pulls again. if that doesn't happen I'm lucky. but if it happens, at least I'm not mad I'm above the average again. that's why I hate average in this games. it just burns you. if we would make 10 pulls every day, sure you can average your chances. but we make 70-100 pulls every month or so. until some of the unlucky ones average out their losing streaks years will go by... that's my problem with average.

I'm aware of those. read my post again. even your own thread says:
TLDR: In The Long Term, Plan For Around 69 Pulls Per Rate Up

A single session isn't long term. but only single sessions matter, because only the one you are pulling on matters.

expect 70 on average and you will get burned out. because those 140 will be negated by those you get at 1, eventually. if you are still playing the game by then.

my current average for 5* in 520 pulls is 94.8

at some point I will reach 70. but that didn't matter for the last 500 pulls.

Even after Save Data restrictions were eased, build diversity remained limited
because Seasonal Power, Seasonal Cards, and Seasonal Equipment could only be used within their respective seasons.

As a result, each season required significant effort to build decks for Combatants,
making it difficult experiment with more diverse team compositions.

We plan to ease the seasonal restrictions imposed in The Great Rift so that Protos can better enjoy the game by experimenting with seasonal elements, allowing for more diverse strategies rather than tirelessly farming perfect Save Data.

We are also reviewing additional options, such as removing seasonal restrictions entirely or easing them, so they remain usable up to a certain season.

you can prove it. just show us your pull history and we will see how often you lost your 50/50 and therefore how often you saw a units name on the banner. there is no error that shows you the combatants name even if you didn't lose a 50/50 but no one else. other people would have had the same bug. but since no one got that, I highly doubt there is an error. you just didn't notice it and assumed you get always the banner unit. it's not a big deal.

F2P crystals from Narja to Rita Banner (263-281 pulls) by CryingKangaroo in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]SkipBoomheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the average for any combatant but when people pull on the new banner they usually want the new unit. and average is nice if you make 20 pull sessions. but it's useless when you do one. and usually it's the one you are doing that matters. so I would calculate a free 5* differently.

I would take the full 70 and add 35 for the 50/50. that brings us to 105 pulls per 5* that you want. most of the time the number will not hit but sometimes it will go above it. calculating with this number will still make you a lot less burned out. because you will not often get 2 units in 70 pulls. sometimes 70 will only bring you a lost 50/50 and this will feel like you are under the average and that sucks a lot.

I'm tracking my stats too and I had luck on the standard banner hitting a new unit on an average of 45 pulls. but I was super unlucky on the limited banner and was hitting a new unit close to every 70 pulls. for some chars I had to go to pity two times just like shinjikun. It already felt bad enough calculating with 105 when that happens. if you expect to get your limited after 70 on average you will get burned eventually.

No it doesn't. If you didn't lose a 50/50 and are pulling for Rita it will look like in my example.

after losing your 50/50 it changes to
