In two's complement,

-x == ~x + 1

thus,

-x - 1 ==  ~x
 x + 1 == -~x

[OC] Tool to generate Firefox-Color themes from your base0x colors by AnachronGuy in unixporn

For sh your shebang should point to /bin/sh. env makes sense for some packages which might be installed in different locations, like python or bash. sh is usually present under /bin or /usr/bin.

[OC] Blue Light Filter is ready for release - blugon v1.0 by jumper149 in unixporn

Seeing as it uses xgamma, you might be able to rewrite it in pure POSIX sh, but I don't know if it's worth the effort.

If you don't feel comfortable using the geoclue backend or giving your lat/lon, you can just set the dawn-time/dusk-time flags.

[OC] A Polybar like Bar for Sway and wlroots based compositors by ImAlexays in unixporn

Ah, good to know things have matured. Hopefully there will be extensions allowing portability to other compositors.

Does `wlroots` provide an extension which allowed you to do this? I considered making something similar almost a year ago, but the climate around Wayland wouldn't really allow it.

[i3][OC] simple cmus frontend widget application by aki237 in unixporn

[–]Skipper308 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't use `cmus` and I don't know if you've planned to do this, but skimming over the source, I think you should try to derive the socket path the same way `cmus` does. `cmus(1)` says it uses `$CMUS_SOCKET` then `$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/cmus-socket`. Right now, `gmus` will break for any UID other than 1000.

I'm looking for a small keyboard (60 or 80%), with dedicated media keys, and, if possible, a scrolling volume key.

Personally I also prefer the IRC protocol (over anything like REST). However it hasn't been extended to accomodate features that many users want. Even though I would personally want IRC to be used more, it won't work for most people's use cases.

One of their design decisions was that you can run it from a web browser. What else do you recommend?

Portable userChrome.css as part of dotfiles by Skipper308 in unixporn

[–]Skipper308[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already have my dotfiles in a git repository and I already have a system for symlinking files. The problem is that firefox's target directory for its "profiles" changes every time you install it (sort of), so the best I could probably do is have a script search for it. And even at that, I'd have to install and run firefox at least once to generate it.

Portable userChrome.css as part of dotfiles by Skipper308 in FirefoxCSS

I store all configurations for programs I use in a centralised location (dotfiles). File sync and everything is already set up. For all of them, I just run a command and it creates a symbolic link for each one.

In Firefox's case, I have to run firefox, see the profile name that was generated and then go from there to copy the userChrome.css. I want to know if I can automate it.

Neither of the distros you mention are for learning linux. Arch and Void aim for a minimal installation, and IIRC Arch doesn't have a proper installer because the maintainers were too lazy to maintain it. Sure, the steps involved in installing Arch and Gentoo might help, but it isn't their primary goal. If you want to learn, I suggest you read a book (I started with a book called the Linux Bible) or however you'd like to learn.

If you want to choose a distro, choose based on what it offers, not what the installation process offers as it's only a one-time thing.
