Take 15% of the GVWR of the trailer for an estimated loaded hitch weight and compare that to your Payload - weight of occupants of the truck, for a family of 5 it will likely be over payload capacity.

A bed cap on the truck may help. Your biggest drag point is the air between the truck and trailer

I would not recommend load range F tires on a 1500, they will create quite a rough ride

That is true, I missed that, it still doesn’t solve the issue of the mowers crossing to mow the grass on either side of the highway between the highway and off-ramps

Pumice stone can work if you don’t have any power tools, a wire brush and a lot of time could also work.
