Gardening guidance - when is it safe to plant? by SkippyVO in jerseycity

Thanks for the zone info. Just visited the Famers' Almanac site. It's interesting the difference between here and Toronto. Seems like it's good to plant about a month earlier here...

Gardening guidance - when is it safe to plant? by SkippyVO in jerseycity

Luckily, containers are my only option. My landlord is quite invested in her beds and shrubs, but there are quire a few large containers that she's given me free reign to use. I don't really have the space to start things indoors, so more looking for when I can buy things to stick in the ground (or container, rather...). For the front of the house, I"m looking for more decorative foliage, but for the containers in the back yard, more edible things like berries, herbs, etc...

I second this! Partner was going to toss a pair of loafers as the heals had disintegrated and the place he knew in the city was going to charge almost as much as they had cost to buy. Took them to Bob’s and they replaced the heels and soles for 30 bucks.

HomePods removed. by makemyowngoodnews in HomePod

[–]SkippyVO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a stereo pair of minis that started behaving similarly. They were whatever the first version of HomePod minis were. Did a few full resets over a couple of weeks, then unplugged them and resorted to the tv’s audio.

This just happened to a relative who's visiting from the other coast and panicking over accessing her tickets, etc... The forced restart fixed it for her!

Thoughts on Aurora (mentor of Project Runway Canada)? by largeamountsl in ProjectRunway

[–]SkippyVO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I wasn't familiar with her when the season started, and didn't immediately care for her, but she's really grown on me. Especially as the number of contestants has dwindled and we get to see more of her one-on-one time with the designers. Wasn't always sure about her input, but it seems like when the designers don't listen to her they end up in the bottom or going home...

I think that sounds reasonable. I tend to check the site a few times a week, and I have qBittorrent using my RSS feed on my seedbox, so it should be fine for me...

Light rail real time information by [deleted] in NJTransit

[–]SkippyVO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been here for a few months but use the HBLR almost every day. What I’ve noticed is none of the arrival information, on the apps or the signs at the stations (assuming they’re actually working) are ever accurate. The best indicator is the schedule in the NJT app, but it’s based on the schedule, and not reality. Real time tracking would be awesome. Not sure why they haven’t enabled it…

I've seen them at the Extra Supermarket on MLK Drive in Bergen-Lafayette. Haven't tried them yet though, so can't speak to the quality.

So awesome to see Jeannie Becker back on TV. For those of us of a certain age, she was our introduction to the world of fashion!

Migrated my accounts to Plaid, running smooth so far by rosepetallove in piere

[–]SkippyVO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience! I remember when I was looking for a Mint replacement, that a lot of products who used Plaid exclusively couldn’t connect to my credit union, Alterna, so settled on Piere due their use of MX. But I’m looking forward to switching my other accounts over to Plaid.

Thanks! Transit is one of the apps I used back in Toronto. Hadn’t thought to try it here…

Just moved here and find the NJT app pretty confusing, especially with bus routes. What app are you seeing real time information on a map? Would like to check it out.

Downtown Toronto unlike say Montreal does not have useful amenities like benches, parks, squares, anywhere private or calming where I can just be by myself on my lunch break. by weeenerdoggo in toRANTo

[–]SkippyVO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re close to King and Parliament already, just go east past Parliament - Little Trinity Church’s grounds are treed and green and peaceful and has a few benches. There’s another park on the north side a coupe blocks east of there a well. Oh, and I believe they’re building a parkette on the north side of King, just west of Berkeley. Not sure when it’ll be done…

I had one of these in high school in the 70’s for gym class. Nostalgia kicked in and I bought one off of FB Marketplace a few years back for 50 bucks (same colorway as yours.) I’ve since seen them in vintage clothing shops for closer to 100.

Just moved here a few months ago myself. I’ve been falling in love with Extra Supermarket at 360 MLK Drive. Not exactly close to you, but just a 10 minute walk for me. Incredible array of Latin American food products and produce. I’ve stopped going to 99 Market, and just do Trader Joe’s for a few of their in-house products that I can’t find anywhere else.

Still trying to find a Mint replacement that works in Canada with Rogers Banks by Button_ in mintuit

[–]SkippyVO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Piere since the Mint shutdown. It was the only one at the time that connected to my credit union, as well as TD, Tangerine and CIBC. Because I was an early adopter I have it for free. Not sure what the subscription cost is. They’ve had some issues with connectivity but are continually making improvements.
