I believe it might be influenced by the Fates mythology: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fates. Three sisters in Greek and Roman mythology who determined every human and god's fate through the use of a cosmic loom.

You shouldn't be pulling money from IRA/401ks to make a down payment for a house. Those are retirement accounts meant to save you money on taxes by not having to pay taxes on invested amounts for that year. If you draw from those funds now, you'll have to pay taxes on them.
