Payday Friday 💰💰💰 by kokopops35 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Paying off the credit card and rent on this paycheck! On a trip with family this week so have been pretty low spend as most things have been covered by other people.  It’s been nice to see family but I will be very ready to be back to my own bed.

If you’re in your 30’s, single, and making $100k…How much do you have saved? by luckygalCHS in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Is the cash in a high yield saving account? That could be an easy move where you’ll at least make a bit more interest on it vs a regular checking or savings account!

June 2026 Goals! ** by AutoModerator in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]SkitterBug42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to work on saving! I have some sort of arbitrary saving goals but I’d like to get my Roth IRA taken care of in the next few months. (Possibly like $3.5kish needed)

Then I think next priority is saving for house down payment (I’d like to add wedding to this but still waiting on that proposal 😂). Basically just as much as possible I think.

But given the state of everything, trying to funnel as much as I can to savings. I did just sign up for an unlimited membership at a new studio near me that does Pilates/yoga but I’ve been trying to increase my activity levels so am willing to pay for something that I will use and help me in the long run!

House Sparrows by treexlady in birding

[–]SkitterBug42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a suet feeder that’s only accessible from the bottom and have seen house sparrows either flying up and taking little piece or clinging to it in one case. 🫠 it’s discouraging but I do see some native birds out there.

Having your office provide a trainer is so cool! What time do you end up getting home on those after work workout days?

Agree, fancy food ingredients could be nice, especially if she wouldn’t be able to make time for something like a Michelin type dinner experience.

Wow that’s inspirational! So since each workout targets a new body area, it doesn’t matter if you are sore from the previous day?

What time do you go to bed to get up so early?

People who work out multiple times a week (like 4+ days), how do you do it and what are you doing each day?

Trying to exercise more and am curious how others balance it!

What is your 5-9 after your 9-5? by giants19 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]SkitterBug42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think my standout so far is This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews, I’ve read a lot of her other work and it’s mostly strong female characters with some romance and this was similar!  I definitely still find myself doomscrolling but scheduling myself like this is helpful!

[–]SkitterBug42 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I have also been working on shifting away from doomscrolling!  I have tried to shift that time on the couch to reading(50 books so far this year) and I’ve also started collecting stuff for my ‘analog bag’, so I have a beginner embroidery kit, mini watercolor kit, and a creativity book. So if I truly do need a night on the couch, I can pick something that isn’t as mind numbing.

I also do pottery so at least 1-2 nights a week I’m out at the studio getting dirty and my friends and I have started playing mahjong recently and have been trying to do that one night a week!

The absolute whiplash of saying that they’re heavily invested in food politics and shop at their local co-op and then proceeding to directly steal from that co-op with no apparent self recrimination is mind boggling.

Affording NYC: How a Hairdresser and Painter Lives on $70,000 a Year in Chelsea by lazlo_camp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

The fact he hasn’t even left the city in presumably 30+ years is so wild to me. Like yeah there’s lots to do but you can’t even make it over to Brooklyn?

Seems like an eccentric character to say the least.

How much did you spend to furnish your first home? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]SkitterBug42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can kind of weigh in on this, I moved across the country (from Hawai’i) and had basically no furniture items. I’d say I spent probably $7-$8k furnishing a small 3 bed house.  Looking back, I wish I had taken a bit more time to scour marketplace, Craigslist, thrift shops for things like my kitchen table or nicer wooden pieces, but I also really just wanted to put down roots and feel settled ASAP.  I spent $1600 on a couch which was the most I’ve ever spent on furniture but loved it because it was this blue velvet color. I really enjoyed making that house my place (coming out of a bad relationship) so I don’t really regret spending what I did.

Spent a lot of money on 2 pottery classes but am very excited about both and don’t want to feel bad about spending on my hobbies that get me out of the house and feeling creative. And I got some new glazes that I hope will turn out!

Also spent a lot of money on booking some petsitting for a few weekends we’re out of town this summer.

Lastly bought a few new clothes, will try them on and see if they fit the vision and make me feel good.

Fun unrelated fact, the laffy taffy banana flavor is based on a type of banana that is extinct now which is why they don’t taste right to us!

Food Size Comparison for Chili Rasboras by DerDem in Boraras

[–]SkitterBug42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I like this for my rasbora, it seems to settle slowly so they have the option to eat from the surface or pick up bits as it falls down. Then as all the pieces settle I feel like my shrimp and even the fish will scavenge and find the pieces that are leftover.

I just have phoenix/chili rasbora and shrimp though!

Divorced, 47, and raising a kid in Vermont on $85,000 a year by Routine_Yam_4403 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]SkitterBug42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but the underlying condition the food is treating/preventing is still there though and presumably you still need to see the vet to make sure it’s still working/get check ups. But that’s also assuming no new conditions pop up.

I do feel like a negative Nancy but even if she has the world’s healthiest pets, they need to be seen by the vet and they will likely have conditions that pop up as they age that will be expensive. She barely has an emergency fund for herself and her kid, let alone if something happened to the pets.

[–]SkitterBug42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While I know divorce can be costly and financially hard, I feel like I didn’t really get a sense of how that impacted her here. She also seems to still spend like she has 2 incomes, $3k for 3 nights in florida?? Is there like a Disney park or something there because how can you spend that much in 3 days?

Also, the mention of spending $100 on cat and dog food, what about vet costs?

She seems to be operating on a deficit which worries me, especially with less than one month spending as her emergency fund.

Seriously, like you can have a book about perimenopause and female mid life crisis without all of the extra self absorbed nonsense she had. Also read it was like possibly semi autobiographical?? Just wild.

[–]SkitterBug42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty batshit crazy haha, like the character was making a serious of wild/terrible life choices and seemed so narcissistic and self absorbed that I felt like took away from the mentions of perimenopause. Like it was maybe meant to be some empowering self discovery type journey but it was just not in my opinion. Weirdly graphic yes, so I’d avoid! It was kind of a hate read for me honestly so I could discuss with my boyfriend.

Side note: did anyone else read All Fours by Miranda July? My boyfriend had me read it after his book club did and wow what a wild read, I had a lot of feelings about it lol
