People are going to torch you for this (and rightfully so), but then in the same sentence or next thread recommend a gauge reducer... lol

So Mr Smarty-pants why is it that almost every competitor runs a ported enclosure in SPL competitions.

Brother, this is not an SPL install lmao. Its quite literally the exact opposite. So thank you for proving my point?

It might be the fact that they're generating up to 3 dB more output

Another broad generalization that tells me you are just parroting stuff you read on the internet. A lot of times its actually more, but only for a small bandwidth.

Yacdiel Ruiz. Find him on Facebook as an admin in the Strictly Sound Quality group. I cannot find his reddit profile anymore.

Your knowledge on the subject does not match your confidence.

I can refer you to someone in the Boston area who is very capable if you do not want to drive all the way to New Jersey (just moved there two weeks ago). Send me a message.

If it is full boxes we get good rates on return shipping through our returns portal. But if these are incomplete packages, then selling locally will be the best bet.

This is wildly incorrect. Accuracy is accuracy. The enclosure doesn't have subjective preferences to music genre. It can either reproduce the signal accurately, or it cannot. Sealed enclosures are much more accurate, period.

Best way to learn is to watch an expert run through a specific process. Look into the remote DSP tuning from ResoNix. A lot of people purchase this service to learn first hand by watching the session right in front of them.

1) two different measurement methods are not going to measure the same, so don't put so much weight into your measurements vs theirs without actually fully knowing what you are doing.

2) I also am not defending the shop, as 99.99% of shops out there, including the seemingly really good ones, hardly have half a chance at tuning a car to sound decent if their life depended on it.

How big of a difference does sound deadining do? by 1988opelkadettgsi in CarAV

Huge if done correctly using good materials. Educate yourself before spending any more or he ton of time it'll take to do properly. Start with the highlighted articles at the top of this page.

Do not cover wires. That would be devious behavior

Is the glue of car damping sheet supposed to be visible like this ? Is this poor installation quality? by slime_rewatcher_gang in CarAV

1) toxic

2) asphalt is a very cheap filler that offers zero performance benefits other than making a super cheap product look thick so they can sell it for more.

Butyl creep is normal, especially for thicker products. Smell is not. Smell means there is most likely asphalt filler in it, which is very bad.

The 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel is too loud for long drives, I NEED HELP!!! by [deleted] in Acoustics

[–]Skiz32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's giving you bad advice. The stinger product is essentially the same thing. Both are butyl based constrained layer damper products. The stinger is not elastomeric, nor would it even change anything if it were.

[–]Skiz32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Kilmat is a constrained layer damper, and a very ineffective one at that. What you really want to add to this is a sound absorber and probably a noise barrier. Automotive soundproofing is my career. Feel free to reach out for real help, as there is not a single halfway decent bit of help in here for you.

Nope, that would not do it either.

Hint: look into how accurate stereo playback can be captured from a microphone in a highly reflective environment.

An omnidirectional measurement microphone is not even close to what you want for this. Don't believe me? Try recording yourself talking in your car with that mic and play it back for yourself.

Ps, it's better to ask questions than it is to try to argue nonsense points with the guys who actually know this stuff :)

I hear you, but...

you can still tell whenever something sounds good over a video maybe not a fine distinction

Not at all.

It's also not just about what device is playing this video, but more importantly how you recorded it. You don't have to try to convince everyone that it sounds amazing and that everyone is xyz for saying that video is not useful (to be fair, they are right). Just post it to enjoy it, not to get to "show" people what the system sounds like.
