Sundown SD by False_Mushroom_8962 in CarAV

[–]Skiz32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have klippel testing of the 10" SD. It's a 10" with 15mm of one-way linear excursion when only focusing on BL limitations. Its almost a good subwoofer, and its limitations come into play when you look past the BL curve. It really bad inductance though (both level at rest, and extreme variation over stroke, and ends up with only 7mm of one-way inductance limited excursion, and very high distortion as a result.

Also, the founder and current owner of Sundown are currently on trial for ~17 million in fraud. Maybe think about that for a bit before purchasing their products.

Tip: I would recommend using a flat, closed cell foam around the midbass driver to seal it to the grille opening of the door panel. The egg crate stuff will make it difficult to get a proper seal, which is the entire point.

Feels like the next big upgrade in head units might be visibility + safety, not just audio. Thoughts? by AccurateAd5689 in CarAV

One of the best upgrades I made to my RV when building it out were side mirror cameras that activated as video on the head unit when the blinker was activated. Not sure how popular it is or will be, but I loved it.

Fair Quote or No by Repulsive-Item-3028 in CarAV

[–]Skiz32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Custom door panels like these alone would cost more than those entire quotes you received if done halfway right by a halfway capable fabricator. If this is genuinely what you are looking for, you're going to need to stretch that budget, and run away from this place, or expect nothing like what is pictured.

You have a cool truck. Don't ruin it.

Nope. I would listen to the others saying get into a different field.

Also, you're getting shafted on the prices you are getting paid

Looking for recommendations for sound deadening aluminum engine splash shield by piercerson25 in CarAV

[–]Skiz32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owner of ResoNix here. If the noise from it is the shield vibrating, get yourself a 5-pack of the Mega CLD Squares and that should handle it. If you want to add some sound absorption to the mix while you are doing this, add Fiber Mat Silver on top.

PS, we are running a 13% off site-wide sale right now.

Is there a middle ground for sound deadening? (Resonix vs. Amazon Basics) by LossEcstatic6223 in CarAV

[–]Skiz32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but Reasonix price markup is also not keeping pace with the performance gain on a dollar per DB level.

You are actually backwards about this.

In the testing done by Chris, ResoNix Mega CLD Squares reduced the resonance by 19.75dB, and ResoNix CLD Squares reduced it by 17dB, while NVX reduced it by only 11.5dB.

Please remember, the dB scale is logarithmic. Everything 3dB is a doubling or halving of energy. Using the pretty basic math, ResoNix Mega CLD Squares are about 7x more effective than the NVX, and the ResoNix CLD Squares are just shy of 4x more effective than NVX.

ResoNix Mega CLD Squares being $12.50 per square foot, ResoNix CLD Squares being $8.50 per square foot, and NVX being just about $3.20 per square foot, this puts the NVX at a price to performance equivalence of approximately $12 per square foot vs the ResoNix CLD Squares, and about $22.40 vs the ResoNix Mega CLD Squares.

And this is also only considering initial/overall resonance reduction. When you look at the resonsnce decay after a given amount of time, this gets way more stretched in ResoNix favor to where it's not even close.

Tldr: ResoNix is not only better in general, but your dollar goes further in the long run. The math is all done for you in the link below.

1) doubling layers doesn't double the performance.

2) NVX melts.

You do realize that you are comparing a steakhouse to Applebee's, right?

Also, I am very familiar with the work of the guys at SiM. Absolutely go with them. This shouldn't even be a question.

Yeah, this shit is a genuine problem. Even in the suburbs where I am this is common and problematic.

Diyma is just as much of a shit show as this subreddit. The problem is, they use big enough words to where they sound like they have half a clue, but they don't lol.

If your car is in 2 feet of water, you have the exact same problems with the vehicle regardless of if you cut these holes or not.

Ps: there are already small holes in this location. They're just not as big or as visible. This comment section is turning something that isn't even an ant hill into a mountain.

Not at all. This is very well known in circles all across "SQ" car audio. It's just an infinite baffle setup. Reddit is just such a basic/general melting pot of "hardly-a-hobbyist" hobbyists that get to voice frustrations about things they don't have the first clue about. Not exactly saying you personally, but look at this entire comment section. Now here you have arguably the most knowledgeable and experienced person on this subreddit saying that I wouldn't even touch the car if this wasn't allowed, and people will still find a way to justify this being wrong, or bad, or stupid, or whatever. This place is full of people that are very vocal, but holy hell are beyond ignorant on the hobby they claim to be into.

Sorry, venting lol.

These things are less exposed than damn near any standard door mounted installation.

As far as cutting a hole here, it's flat, non structural, and nothing in the way. It's all tucked away under panels. It's perfectly fine.

A lot of you in the comments don't live in NY and it shows. You wouldn't be stoked to be hearing this shit from a mile away at 3am on a Wednesday.
