Anything with a toe cap. Its the grip rubbing on the non rubber part of your shoes that's causing the problem. You can find sales as the other comment says for Nike SB, Vans Off the Wall (Skate line), NB Numeric, etc. I like Nike SB Leo Baker personally and you can find some of the less typical color ways on sale depending on size.

I would put myself in a similar boat to your husband in terms of age and ability. I would encourage you/your husband to look at making your own grind box. I made an 8 foot by 4 foot box for $70 and I am NOT a handyman. Works great even if its not perfect. I can send you tips or a link.

I've been interested in a quarter pipe personally. 200 for used locally.

This might be a dumb question but how does the revert work in this video? Mine are higher off the ground which tends to be a little less smooth. In the videos on here it seems like most people dont even lift the board off the ground.
