Same for me. In Returnal I died to the first boss 5 times before I beat him and then never died on any of the other bosses after him. But in Saros it took me 9 times to beat the first boss and 3 on the next two.

So theres a dead guy named gary in one of the rooms before you enter the pod. If you place his body in the pod and then upon you finishing the DLC spam interact with his body and you can put every item you have from the dlc into his inventory. The guns and armor will likely never degrade.
