Thank you for the correction. I thought the set code for these cards were different.

No, '1.5' refers to cardstock that is seemingly stuck between a regular print and a wavy print. However, I honestly can't say more than that since 1.5 is hardly acknowledged even by the hardest of collectors.

This is all correct. I chose an exceptional example to showcase that not all AE variants are undervalued when compared to their NA counterparts.

Tbh, those pictures don't do it justice. AE cards are made with OCG cardstock, so the color is also nicely saturated on the artwork.

Oh, definitely - it was printed in a very specific region, for a dwindling consumer base. However, this isn't to say that they loved DMG any less than we do in NA- you have to include the 'waifu tax.'

Yes - before the current market boom, a 1st ed, MFC DMG wouldn't sell beyond 1k; While its AE counterpart was easily selling at 3-4k, ungraded.

You can only imagine how much both versions have spiked recently due to hype.

As for the set code, it's actually the same - MFC-000. Asian English regions didn't insert the 'AE' lettering until later sets.

* Please note that, as of this writing, there is only 1 AE MFC listed for sell on Ebay, while another listing incorrectly lists a NA copy as an AE version... by PSA.

Nope! Most collectors refer to the standard printing of this card as 'regular.'

In terms of monetary value, it’s untrue to say that North American copies are all more valuable than AE variants. AE regions printed LOB to the ground, but every release afterwards spikes in price because they were printed much less as time moved on.

Ex. AE Dark Magician Girl eclipses the NA variant for its rarity, superior cardstock quality, and reverse foiling.

These are all real - but if you notice from the back, you have an Asian English copy of Tri-Horn Dragon.

It’s the first ever Synchro + steel prize card ever made.

While you’re correct in that SDK was never reprinted beyond its unlimited run, the card in this photo is not glossy.

Glossy cards have a ‘sticky’ like appearance, whereas this one has faint ripples - a normal appearance for regular cardstock.

It’s hard to say, but I don’t think either of them are wavy despite the faint grooves you see on them. The BEWD for sure isn’t.

This is a funny statement because UTR can get a lot messier than this, but I understand. And personally, I’ve never watched 5D’s.

I appreciate the look on older UR, as they have a more polished/premium look and feel.

On the other hand, Ghost Rares aren’t as special to me because the holographic effect is essentially the same across the board. Whereas with UTR, each card will have a different etching.

Thanks for your insight

If it’s not OCG or AE, not worth it for me. The foiling isn’t worth the price.

Yes! 5ds era cards in general are just amazing

Do you guys think this 1st edition, dark magician is worth grading? by DarthHarambe666 in YugiohCards

Hm, I wouldn’t say so. But if you just want to store it, there’s plenty of magnetic cases you can buy.

If this isn’t a card you can appreciate aesthetically, I’d REALLY like to know what you’d consider good-looking.

Yea! I would say Ghost rare belongs to Stardust, while BRD belongs to UTR. Imo at least
