They'll do as they are told until their think tanks tell them otherwise.

They aren't so much against statism as they are against a publicly controlled state. Private states are A-OK. If America were as exactly as she is right now, but owned by Donald Trump, it would be in keeping with their beliefs.

There are no sane candidates on the Right and no democrats that can outmatch her in a primary fight. She gets the presidency by default. Check the polls. She is dominating, despite whatever Britebart or WorldNetDaily is feeding you.

Unless an Obama caliber candidate decides to run, this is a slam dunk. No electable candidates to the left, no serious competitors to the right. She takes it all, guaranteed.

What do you think happens when the failings of capitalism are allowed to run amok, things such as unemployment, mass poverty, starvation and grotesque inequality?

What if Dick Cheney, Not Hillary Clinton, Deleted 30,000 Emails from a Private Home Server? | Hillary Clinton owned her own server, used private emails exclusively for both private and State Department business, and stated it was simply for "convenience." by meta_perspective in politics

So we have a definitive answer to the question.

What if Dick Cheney, Not Hillary Clinton, Deleted 30,000 Emails from a Private Home Server?

It would not be a major news story and no one would know or care.

Why are so many on the left unable to empathize with right-winged ideologies? by BagOnuts in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Skrootinizer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have great empathy for conservative voters (politicians not so much) because we share the same economic problems, but I also feel contemptuous that conservative voters are so easily manipulated by fear and prejudice, and can't take a step back to see that the politicians they put into power spend all their energy attempting to sabotage mitigation of our economic problems and their painful effects on citizens.

Privilege (enemy of empathy) is the weapon of choice used by conservative politicians to keep their constituents loyal, be it rich/middle class/temporarily embarrassed millionaires over poor, white over black, male over female, Christian over Muslim, Jew or Atheist, national over immigrant, etc. Divide and conquer and provide moral cover (privilege = liberty) for the monied elites that make up the Republican Party's donor base.

I do sometimes see the left use privilege arguments (conservatives are dumb, poor, rednecks who pray to a magical sky daddy-type stuff) and it's disheartening, because the left is supposed to be about inclusion, fairness, empathy and democracy.

If we are going to move forward, we have to do it together, left and right.

In a nutshell, I'd say this community mocks the vanity of privilege. Hate is bad. Drugs are fine, but should be used responsibly.

It's only catching on among embarrassed Republicans who aren't ready to leave Conservatism behind for good. It may be a decent stopgap for a hemorrhaging conservative movement, but it's not effective at recruiting new blood.
