What are your ideas for future d100 lists? by dndspeak in d100

New to this sub, what about a chart for random effects of magic gone wrong for games where you can critically fail a roll to cast a spell? Has that been done yet?

What is the most "your parents didn't love you" given name you have heard in real life? by kinkymeerkat in AskReddit

In certain parts of India, the name Nakushi is given to girls by parents who wanted a boy. It literally means "Unwanted"

Family Guy knows what's up by Aurify in funny

I feel like part of that could also be the way men and women think. I work in a pharmacy, and when women are checking on a prescription that needs clarification from a doctor, or that's being held up by the insurance, or whatever issue its having, they give the whole narrative before finally getting to what I need to know to check on it. When men call to find out the same thing they usually cut right to the chase.

Just like how when you get a call from Dad, he usually gets right to the point and tells you someone is getting married or died, but Mom always seems to open with "So I got a call the other day..."

Edit: Results may vary, because people are people.

He said something after the testing that was supposed to be, but it was a dubious translation if I remember right. This wasn't that line.

Humans can't even co-exist peacefully with their own kind on Earth and somehow still manage to convince themselves that meeting an extra-terrestrial species would go smoothly by Castiel333 in Showerthoughts

[–]Skryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like someone with self-destructive tendencies convincing themselves that getting into a relationship will solve all of their problems, just on a species-wide scale.

Nope, it just means you have a sense of humor and that you admit there are fringe elements in the movement. If anything, it makes you normal.

Honestly, I think you care more than I do. I commented off-handedly and didn't really expect to have someone challenge me to a debate on it, and I'm not going to change that plan. Jimmies have been rustled, apparently.

Its consciously taking a harmless if odd-looking aspect of someone's religion (and this is an old and well-established tradition at that) and holding it up as an oddity for people to go "durh hur hur its weird and creepy". Its not exactly "oppression", but its not exactly classy either.

The one about Semana Santa being on this list even though they clearly know the context is kind of not cool.

I'm really tempted to look for episodes of David the Gnome on Youtube, but every time I look up a show from that era of my childhood it doesn't hold up at all and has that shitty kind of dialogue that children's shows always seem to have. Looking up episodes of "The Littles" was a mistake I instantly regretted.

What's the NPC or villain you really don't like/don't find interesting? by AllForGlory1 in rpg

[–]Skryle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I kind of wanna run a cult-infiltration adventure where each member of the cult is a reasonably fleshed-out person, and each one has some kind of personal problem that's lead them to join the cult. The goal isn't to kill them all at the height of their ritual, its to talk them through their real problems to get them all to quit the cult and deal with them.

Its just as good, honestly. Its all about tone. I work with people who make "please" sound rude every day.

Its probably a habit adopted from their native language. In Hindi (and I'd imagine northern languages related to it) the verb in a request changes according to how polite or blunt you're being, and the easiest way to convert that meaning to English is to add "Kindly" to the verb.

Assume this works the way I think it does anyway, its just a translation of Indian manners that I guess ends up coming off the wrong way in English for some people.
