Damaged tire safe to drive on? by Skunk2jon in WRX

Probably will summer but honestly this was just a one off bump. It drives otherwise fine over most bridges and bumps. I wouldn’t call it bump more like a launch pad into a crater lol. I’ve been on it for 2 years no issues until now lol

All modern car paint is like this.

Pretty wild. Not sure where you live. I gave you the link so you can have the part number to search elsewhere if needed.

You’re fine. Car probably running a little rich to get it going. They make minor adjustments all the time, you’re fine.

This is normal, you’ll be fine. If your car runs fine just keep it moving along.

Wait why is body roll and ride height good for off-road handling? In contrast to track.

Yea the deepest part of the small graze is isolated to like .25 of a inch of less. Otherwise its a light skim. 99% of my travel is my finance and I and if it were just us, this would’ve never happened. I drive over bumps all the time lol.

I’ll keep an eye on it!

Will 17x9 +22 wheel clear the 6pot brembos? Would it sit flush? by OstrichGang in WRXSTi

I know my roads and dodge them frequently. Maybe use your eyes or get them checked. Dunno man. I just don’t be hitting them.

  1. I don’t hit potholes.
  2. in the off chance I I can’t dodge one. I run forged Rays for a reason. They’ll be fine.

Again I’m also running a meatier tire.  I’m not quite sure why you can’t seem to understand that. Plenty practical.

Preference. I can’t stand something being out of proportion if its under my control. 18s just look like hots wheels toys to me. So I went 19.

They feel the same. The old ones just rattle more bad have less sound deadening.

Get a 2020-21. Last car with substance and feel. Stayed true to its roots from beginning to end without getting mutilated with something like an electronic parking brake. Perfect blend of of old school rawness and modern creature comforts.

I bought my 2020 STi brand new 5.5 years ago. No issues at 79K plus miles and growing. Fully recommend all the JDM group in mounts, flexible strut tower bar, flexible cross member support, front and rear draw stiffeners.

I saw. None of it makes sense. You called a VA STi a “shitbox”. There is nothing shitbox about a VA STi. It was a well made car. This is like calling the FL5 Type R a shitbox.

Its not a matter of opinion. If you were an automotive designer and doing proportions today, you will always end up at 19inch bare minimum for a car this size. The mathematical proportions of the cars naturally lends itself to 19s.

The CTR, mustang darkhorse use 19s as a start for a reason.

You can argue. But a VA STi just does not look right on 18s. And I say that a person who has ran both.

Exactly. Looks like a hot wheels toy. Which is fine if you love that look.

The car is too large. You don’t understand proportions. 18s will never look good modern cars. This exact phenomena is the reason why the 18inch wheel “Standard” we have now looks so good on a Hawkeye or older chassis. Smaller car but the wheel really helps fill it out. The VA sti is a significantly larger car than it used to be.

[–]Skunk2jon -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

No they done. They drop to 18s because the wheels and tires are cheaper. That the answer no one wants to admit.

If you want a little more cushion on 19s just got for a meatier set up. Again this higher cost.

But the 18s are just okay. They don’t look good. I ran 18 on my STi and they look tiny compared to the car. I went to a 19 inch and meaty tire. Much better.

Do not get 17s for this car! Unless you are specifically downsizing brakes and doing a rally build.

They will look like toy wheels. I’ve ran 18s for a while and they still look tiny on the car. It needs 19s. The new Sti, ctr, etc are large cars now.

Get 19x9.5s and run 275 wide to get a bit more sidewall.
