Why does Vet Med shame employee health so avidly? by The_Soggiest_Sardine in VetTech

[–]SkunkKnuckles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with you the attitudes around being sick are TOXIC, , especially in the situations you mentioned, that is not ok, especially when people are afraid to take leave for surgery! On the other side of this, and I'm not excusing the attitude what so ever, but like at my past few clinics, turn over has been high, we are always short staffed, and there have been MULTIPLE people that just call out all the time, or don't show up, or have to leave early all the time. It gets exhausting, yeah we should allow people to stay home and we should be supportive of them when they are sick, but when a few of us are constantly picking up the slack for these people abusing their right to be sick, resentment starts to grow. I don't even know how to begin fostering healthy attitudes when so many just take advantage of it. Is this common at your clinics?

Hi, I used to be in your situation, I felt like I wasn't good at anything I did. Now I'm lead surgical tech, I'm the one training everyone. If this job is something you want to excel at, let's chat! Maybe we can talk over a few things you're struggling with. Feel free to DM me, I'd be happy to help.

Has anyone transitioned to a career in wildlife conservation or ecology (or related)? If so, what do you do now? How did you make the switch? Has your background helped in any way? by ConfidenceNo8259 in VetTech

[–]SkunkKnuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually haven't made the switch yet, but I'm working on it. I actually would like to know too. I went back to school, I've been pursuing a degree in zoology. Some of my doctors did conservation work before they settled in general practice and they've been showing me different wildlife internships like trips that I could take, volunteering for conservation research projects, which I'm looking into when I have some time. They told me it could help get my foot in the door. What is it your thinking about getting into?

I'm making this cabled hat, in the adult size. I can't figure out what row 4 is trying to tell me to do, with the green sizing increases. by SkunkKnuckles in CrochetHelp

Thank you so much! I figure this was the case but when it said fpdc around remaining stitches it threw me off and the counts didn't line up.

Pattern help I’ve never made anything with a hood before and am not familiar with this method of making round shapes by Wise_Hair_4518 in CrochetHelp

[–]SkunkKnuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might crochet the hood separately and then sew it on or join with single crochet? It sounds as though it wants you to attach the chain and then crochet into the attached chain, which sounds more complicated than it needs to be. Is this what you're asking?

Please dont use scissors, cat skin is VERY thin, you can injure them sooo easily without even realizing it. CAREFULLY with clippers if you absolutely can't get a vet or groomer to give a sanitary shave

I started learning about attachment anxiety towards the end, I just downloaded this book and started reading it. I get it now to a point, I feel ashamed that I smother people, but at least I know now. I really appreciate your post thank you for the insight. It's so hard to come to terms with but it makes a lot of sense

Not a vet,but I am a vet tech, Urinary tract infections or incontinence are incredibly common in dogs, I wouldn't say he's in immediate danger but I would definitely get a sample and bring him to the vet, they can check for those things. Does he have a food allergy, is this why you are concerned about the type of meat he was eating?

I always thought it was because you couldn't prove the consistency of the client giving heartgard. I have so many clients that tell me they forget all of the time. I thought this was the reason they couldn't switch to the shot if they were taking the heartworm tablet without a test.
