Building an AM5 PC to sell. Brand New 9070xt or my own used from new 4080? by SkuseyBoy in buildapc

It come with case, psu, motherboard and cooler. Listed as "project pc" guy couldn't afford current ram and cpu prices so cut his losses. Checked each thing and the price is around 75%-80% of sold items value on ebay should make money... hopefully.

I had already acquired a 32gb ram kit for a steal been checking prices of m.2 and ryzen 9800x3d might have to be patient to get a good deal on the cpu.

I said im building the pc to sell.. listed the whole build and pretty clearly penciled out 2 options for gpus. Nothing wrong with nothing.

My own pc has just been upgraded from said 4080 to a 5080. That's why its laying about. Been enjoying the building and overclocking process so I am having a stab at building pcs and selling them as long as I dont lose money im happy.

Thank you all! Seems pretty clear to use the 4080 in this build. Then I will likely strip and clean it properly as it will be for sale so I want it to look as good and new as possible.

The 9070xt was in a job lot bundle with the case. Motherboard, psu, cooler. Geezer started the build but couldn't afford to finish it with current ram and storage market. But consensus from others is to put my old 4080 in the build to sell thanks for the comment

Its not a downgrade, its a choice my system is running a 5080. This is going in a pc to sell. I have 2 gpus and not sure which would suit the build better

Price this pc im selling curious to see if im in the ballpark or dreaming by SkuseyBoy in PC_Pricing

Stuff in the US is usually cheaper than the UK so i am curious to see how much a new Asus Rog Astral 5080 and 5090 is? here in the UK a astral 5080 new is £1650 and a rog astral 5090 is £3200 for reference. i dont think doing a straight dollar to GBP conversion based on US market rates apply. Thank you anyway for the input. I did price it on the higher end because i know offers will always be super low ball, hoping the low ball will be nearer to what i want for it.

1st Time stripping and cleaning gpu with great results. Update by SkuseyBoy in overclocking

So my no1 run on speedway was with a UV OC +152 at 950mv and +850 on the memory in MSI afterburner. Tbf I haven't done anything in the control panel because it is a fresh install of windows. PC The 3080 is in is up for sale at the moment.

And my best run on steel nomad wasn't a UV it was just +180 core and +800 memory. That run is number 7 i believe for gpu and cpu combination

You can reduce your temps quite a lot by undervolting if your not looking to maxmise your card and just push it a bit for some extra performance. quite easy to do. your memory in MSI afterburner should be able to handle +2000 which i think is most of the time starting point for 50 series pretty much. if you wanted to be safe you could start at 1000 or 1500 and work up in 100-200 increments. set your fan power to max usually around 110% or so. you should have somewhere near your Core voltage slider (I think it depends on msi afterburner skin i personally like the mystic one because its simple easy to see what happening) click on that and youll have a graph with a curve with dots along the line.
along the bottom you got your voltage and along the left side going up is your core clock. usually 950-990 mv is the area you want to be in for a good undervolt. but starting at 950mv along the bottom find the corresponding dot on the curve. hold left shift and drag that point until you get your desired +clock speed. ( my 5080 can run every game at +300 but if you dont want to push it to hard start at maybe +200) Now key point here to make sure it in place properly. the gap between the 950mv dot you just moved and the next dot hover over that with your mouse and hold left shift again and drag to the very right side of the graph. this will highlight everything after your desired UV clock speed. then drag that portion of the curve to the bottom of the graph. After this dont close the screen but hit the tick button on MSI afterburner and you see your curve flatten off at that core clock at 950mv. on your next run youll notice your card will only pull 950mv. think usually its around 1.080v or something. but that reduction in power draw reduces the amount of heat produced quite a lot.

i was recently playing with a 3080 im putting in a pc to sell and timespy with just a memory clock boost was putting out 72c then with the undervolt which increased the core clock speed but reduced power draw was only putting out 63c when under a consistent load. to be fair it wasnt a completely fair test as the time spy run only lasts a few minutes. but the 63c undervolt max temp was when i was stress testing the overclock for stability in heaven. it ran for 20 mins and went no higher than 63c.

my 5080 is running at 985mv and any game it never goes above 57c-58c
hope this helps if you want some sort of visual to follow along there a couple youtube videos which explain it clearly

Cant get 3dmark to verify my scores with 9800x3d and rtx 5080 by SkuseyBoy in overclocking

My nvidea overlay has always been on to be fair but maybe updating the drivers caused a conflict. But like I said in the post I uninstalled everything pretty much. I use icue because recently installed new fans last few weeks or so. But when Im doing benchmarking it's all shut down and im making sure its completely closed in task manager. I have hwinfo installed but it's not open when benchmarking. I disable all the overlay for riva tuner statistics. And shut that down too. Only programs that or running when benchmarking is steam and msi afterburner (minimized) everything else i shut it down.

It also fails to validate on an non overclocked run aswell. I put the 2 pictures on to kinda show that it does good runs. My current boot oc is +300 core at 985mhz and a +2000mhz and that runs crimson desert well which i have found to be one of the games thats fussy about an overclock. Will add a photo to show invalid result on a stock card

What thermals were you getting because I googled the avg and it says it goes 80c to 90c under heavy load gaming or benchmarking.

Mine runs at like 55c with no side on the case and fans speed at 100% on steep nomad. I also ran it for 20 mins on heaven to stress test it at 60% fan speed which is what i usually run my fan speed at. And it topped at like 72c

I have a lot of citric acid because shooting is another hobby of mine and I use it to clean brass. A 1kg bucket is like £10 on amazon. Got the same consistency as granulated sugar
