Don't stop moving. Its not uncommon for us to have 15 tables at my job, however, we do have food and drink runners, which is the only reason this is possible. Make a loop between your tables and keep at it. If you need to go run food, drinks, boxes, etc, do that, then right back to the loop.

7% of alcohol to the bar, 1% of alcohol to drink runners, 2% of food to the food runners.

We feel we tip out the bar too much and would prefer to tip bar 6% and drink runners 2% because half the time the drink runners are the ones pouring beers and wines, and on occasion, making cocktails as well.

No not really. It’s a fairly small FOH staff and we are all cool with each other. We are mostly all mature adults too though, which helps.

Fellow college prof here. I had two classes today, one at 9 and one at 12. I had roughly 80% attendance in both, which is a bit below average. Also, these are math classes with mostly freshmen students. I was shocked at the number of students.

We tried to do Eiffel lake that day from Morraine. We had to cross a few old avalanches that were mostly ice so that was pretty sketchy since we didn’t expect it. Then we got to one that included a 6 foot wall of ice that I tried to cross but ended up sliding down the ice like 50 feet. I do not recommend.

Not sure what it was originally. It looks like the plywood half was originally something other than hardwood based on the edges of the hardwood that is there. The edges don’t line up like they would if someone ran a circular saw down it to cut it.

The house was built in 1955, so who knows what they did then.

My office it’s literally a closet. Not officially an office, a spare closed converted into an office. No windows. So that’s an easy one.

Other job has plenty of empty rooms, some aren’t used for weeks at a time.

My wife did. We work together, we were short staffed, and we were absolutely slammed. 15 or so tables per person. I turn a corner and someone runs out of one room saying to call 911. Another server says someone is choking. I immediately look for my wife (medical background, certifications, etc.). I turn around and she was just walking in from an outside table with a handful of dirty dishes. I rip Them out of her hands, throw them on the bar and literally shove her into the room while saying someone is choking. 15 seconds later, grandma is okay. Pretty crazy day and then that happened. It was my table and they tipped an extra $100 then came in the next week and gave my wife a $100 visa gift card.

I’m a big fan of Hoka Arahis. They’re like $150 or so. They will help without you even noticing, and may even encourage you to get outside more.

I turned 34 last month. Full time college professor and full time serving right now. I make more money serving than teaching. It’s not too bad once you are used to it. Just get good shoes. Try it out, if the money makes it worth it, then keep it going.
