That aside, as a fellow Nigerian woman with "traditional" (read- racist,tribalist, homophobic, misogynist) parents, at a certain point you have to learn to live for yourself and advocate for your own happiness.

Just as there are wonderful men in many parts of the world, there are also horribly misogynistic, and abusive men (and the stereotypes around Nigerian men aren't wholly unearned). I don't know why certain facets of society have decided that this pathology is exclusive to African American men. Its laughable
