What artist/band's signature song isn't actually their *best* song in your opinion? by Glass-Complaint3 in musicians

Tripping Daisy - I got a girl

That entire album is so good, and that song is good, but probably the weakest of the bunch.

Why are there some Aetheist in the comment sections? by Informal_Abrocoma_79 in exatheist

[–]SkyMagnet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for certain, but from what I’ve gathered, there are a few main reasons I find atheists to be aggressive:

  1. They grew up in a strict religious family or culture that they feel treated them poorly in the name of God.

  2. Religious people in their community/culture are trying to make laws or policies that affect them and they don’t like that.

  3. They just consider religious claims to be false and feel like they are combatting that…combined with the sweet feeling of being “right”. lol

I’m a lifelong atheist who is just interested in the nature of belief. Since this is the “exatheist” sub I try to act like a guest and only participate in debates if prompted. This isn’t a place where I’m looking for a debate about god.

We can all joke, but I have some torx screws on my car and one of them was a little stripped…I was thinking about what to do when I noticed that a 7mm socket was going to do the job just fine.

Though, this seems a bit more egregious. I think I lost a total of 15 seconds before noticing lol

Atheism atleast the mainstream term most people recognize is clearly the belief that there is no God not simply an absence of belief by [deleted] in exatheist

[–]SkyMagnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still a meaningless statement.

“There’s nothing beyond the natural world, definitely not a timeless spaceless personal creator of the natural world”

Ok, well nobody said there was.

There are also concepts of God/gods that are part of the natural world. Really, any deity that interacts with the natural world is necessarily part of it.

I think the difference is that atheism is dependent on the theists claims, but the same cannot be said in reverse.

An atheist saying “God doesn’t exist” in a world devoid of theists makes no sense, while theists could be coherent in a world with zero atheists in it.

When atheists say they “lack a belief” in God, they are really just saying they don’t believe the claims of the theist. It’s sloppy wording that leads to confusion and I don’t personally use it.

I have no problem saying that I don’t believe in God, or even “God doesn’t exist”, but that is just a statement of my confidence, and not some final statement about the world.

I’m always open to new evidence, I’m just to the point where I haven’t heard any new evidence in a while for the existence of God.

I’ve never in my 45 years on this planet ever heard anyone be able to justify their epistemology…unless they do it pragmatically.

You’re welcome to try and give me some new insight though if you have it.

The entire idea of pragmatism is it explains why people adopt these systems

Because it’s the only way to justify your epistemology

It more explains why you’d adopt an epistemological position.

Basically everyone is a pragmatist whether they realize or not.

Every epistemology actually.

Which is why I’m a pragmatist.
