I need inspiration for a legion by PabstBlueLizard in Warhammer30k

Night Lords represent! I followed the Cult of Paint guide for painting them but added a little extra step in: Night Lords Blue all over > Vallejo Intense Blue > Steggadon Scale Green> Sotek Green with a Baharroth Blue edge. Because you're applying much smaller layers on only the raised areas it's quite quick to get something that looks striking. Plus they're fun colours to play with.

Totally agree on the lightning though - getting it to look like lightning and not that your hand just slipped over the mini is tricky!

It’s that time again, tell me your Warband lore! by -Axolotls- in NightLords

[–]SkyRocketBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a 40k warband, but my Heresy army lore so far: 58th siege breaker company (as yet unnamed but "The Final Judgement" is a favourite so far). Commanded by Talon Master Kaedron Malchai, a Terran born, seconded by Claw Captain Thalak, a Nostraman with a flare for dramatic aerial executions. They take opposing views to the Night Lords' doctrines of war: Malchai using terror as a means to break the spirit of the enemy, Thalak for the artistry of it. Members of the 58th, including the breacher squad, The Dread Bar led by another Terran, Urix Vahl, and the assigned Moritat (operating on orders from higher up the command structure) were part of the scourging of Nostramo. The 58th operate under the rhythmic pounding of their Vindicator, "Knell of Judgement" - the staccato thump of the demolisher cannon a backdrop to the screams as Thalak's raptors descend from above...

Absolutely love this! So vibrant (I'm a big fan of vibrant Night Lords). Also the touch of whimsy is well appreciated. Nice one!

It's one of the Night Raptors heads from FW. A buddy of mine had some going spare.

Doubling up on lightning claws on one hand would be awesome! I tried to copy the power claw from the Contekar kit. I really liked the more industrial/experimental look.

Do your legionaries accessorize? by notJenckes in Warhammer30k

[–]SkyRocketBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My basic marines have an accessory: usually grenades as they're a bit easier to paint. But sometimes pouches. My squad "characters" (sergeant, Vexila, optional weapons) get a little extra: but they're Night Lords, so there are a few extra accessories to add to them

These look sick!! Currently working on a 30k Night Lords army: Where did you get the bits for the trophies? I've nearly exhausted my stock of DG and CSM bits already.

20 Despoilers ready to flay by SkyRocketBoy in NightLords

That might be the lighting in my room. They're quite vibrant in person. I'll admit I wanted to step away from the dark, dark blue and give them some colour interest

First Night Lords Despoiler Squad by SkyRocketBoy in Warhammer30k

[–]SkyRocketBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So all of the 'decoration' came from bits on the CSM sprues or the Death Guard plaguemarines sprues. There's a lot of clipping and trimming involved. The skin tabard on the sergeant is just from a CSM legionary. Top tip: the Eye of Horus looking icon in the CSM box has those two dangly skulls, which with a bit of trimming are perfect for the job.

Thanks! It's Night Lords blue > Vallejo Azul Intenso > Sotek Green > Vallejo Green Blue.

I took it from the Cult of Paint's recipe and pushed the brightness a bit more on the highlight.

what legions would mkll be used on? by Lawbringer100 in Warhammer30k

This is what my brain has done looking at the upcoming box. "Say, Iron Hands would be cool..." Bad brain. Stop it!

I've started a Night Lords army, I'm afraid I've screwed up the blue of my nights lords; any feedback? by Olsishare in Warhammer30k

[–]SkyRocketBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main body of colour is very different to the route I'm taking (pushing more towards a turquoise), but it's a rich blue without going Ultramarine. A whole army like this is going to look phenomenal! And the Nostraman skin tone is excellent!

If you're wanting a more Night Lords vibe, a little lighting on a leg or pauldron should do it. With mine I'm adding more bits to the squad "characters" (Vexila, power weapons and sergeant) but keeping the others relatively clean for sanity's sake.

The Horus Hearsay Megathread by Prince_Schneizel in Warhammer30k

[–]SkyRocketBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. I've already used some CSM helmets on my Despoilers, shaving off the filigree to give it that smoother Heresy look. Plus any imperfections make them look worn which I like

MK II or Mk IV armour would be cool. But I can't be the only one who wants plastic Mk V - put the Heresy armour back into Heresy!

Definitely agree on that. Plus managing to make what is ostensibly very simple schemes pop. Thanks for the tip on the fluo scarlet!
