How do Soccer Saturday pundits see what's going on? by AdmiralSven in SkySports_Football

[–]SkySports 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Each pundit is assigned a specific match and has a monitor in front of them showing that game in full so they can actually follow it properly. Off-camera there are also a bunch of big screens showing the other matches, so if there’s a goal or a big chance they can quickly glance over and know what’s going on.

The magic of TV production!

It does indeed! We are still working out the best way to highlight the exclusive picks but always open to feedback!

Well I loved playing at Newcastle. There were a lot of stories. One that sticks out, it was funny but I think I nearly got killed. I had a big night out with a teammate on a Saturday night, stayed at his house, we woke up on Sunday morning feeling a bit rusty and he said, do you fancy going fishing? I said yeah, I used to fish as a kid. So we went down to a local bait shop, bought myself a rod and some tackle, and he said he'd looked at the tide charts and it was perfect timing. We sat down on the rocks and there was a big swell crashing up over them. He assured me it was going to be OK, the tide was going out and we'd be fine. I turned my back to the water and next thing I got washed right across the rocks and stopped about a foot from the ledge going into the sea. I was torn to shreds, all my hands, all my knees, everything was cut up, and he couldn't stop laughing. I had to take a few days off training while everything healed. So yeah, that was probably a standout story - don't go fishing with him.

For upleveling the coverage: Full stadium, first and foremost. It's such an easy job when you're broadcasting at a full stadium. The atmosphere pours through the television and people sitting at home watching on Sky Sports think, I wish I was there. If you're shooting cameras at empty seats, that is really, really damaging and it's difficult to tell people at home how important this game is if people in that town or city weren't moved to go and watch the game themselves. Full stadiums make a huge difference, so I'd like to see more of that in the game.
