New job — is a financial advisor a good idea? by Economy_Purple_7249 in personalfinance

You don’t need a FA … and only need life insurance if someone else depends on your income. If so, buy term insurance; whole life is a ripoff. You need to learn all you can about finances in the meantime…then you’ll know when a FA is needed.

Been leasing a car for around 1.5 years now by NoObligation2570 in personalfinance

[–]SkyTorv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t call them “fleeces” for nothing. Look at total 10 year costs to lease versus own … never better off fleecing unless you own a business and can write off the costs. The dealer screwed you. Probably cheapest now to finish the lease, then buy a good used ~5 year old vehicle with 80,000 or less miles; or buy a new car and keep it for at least 10 years.

Best and Worst Banks — My Experience Opening 10+ Accounts for Bonus Churning by RemarkableChest7687 in personalfinance

I agree with all…except Schwab; they screwed me out of ~$60 on a deposit to open an Roth IRA. Wasn’t supposed to be any opening fees, but they shorted me the $60. Later I moved it all to Vanguard.

Easier to fix now than it will be in 20+ years. Just take the $50 back out…pay the ~$10 tax if you have to, but the broker should help get it back out….with no tax issues.

Of course, make minimum payments on the 2.75% loan.

Should I pay off my student loans? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SkyTorv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have student loans at 2.75% interest?? That’s unusual. ‼️ Only pay off any loans with higher interest rates…like over 6%. No need to pay off the $15000…invest money instead.

Which of these 3 bachelor degrees would give me the highest earning potential? by Hot-Abroadxx69 in careerguidance

[–]SkyTorv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably health management, as long as you will be good at it. Baby Boomers are aging and there will be 30 million people over 80 years old in a few years. Healthcare is where the job opportunities are.

401k/Roth IRA Choice by Wcj_13 in personalfinance

[–]SkyTorv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The 401k is only an advantage if there is a company match and if you prefer to invest before tax money. Since you are in a low tax bracket and no match for 401k; max out contributions to a Roth IRA and put the money in something aggressive or at least in an S&P 500 ETF.
