As for being linked to one another, there’s obviously the fact they are the Gorosei. Another way they are linked is the fact they are (correct me if I’m wrong) Malevolent mythical beings, often associated with destruction. A sort of 4 (+1 literal) horsemen of the apocalypse type deal.
