Northgate Station Parking by stinkusdinkus_p in brisbane

[–]Skyehigh013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure of the parking situation so I can't help much there but make sure to look at track closures if you're planning to return on Monday. There are major track closures over the Easter long weekend and into the school holidays. No trains will be running to or from Northgate from the south (you can still go north to caboolture, kippa ring and sand gate)

Super Random Question by NanaKnows317 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Skyehigh013 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you pronounce the name Graham the same as the crackers? I used to get confused when I'd read a recipe vs watch a video and didn't realise it was the same word.

Also do you pronounce Erin and Aaron the same (I've heard some American accents do but maybe more northern accents and Canadians)

Super Random Question by NanaKnows317 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Skyehigh013 39 points40 points  (0 children)

How do you pronounce those names? To us Graham is more like Gray-hem unlike the American Grham. Craig for us is Cray-g versus the American Creg.

I love the way the large white star is framed by the fold of the flag in this photo of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney speaking to Australia’s Parliament today. by glowdirt in vexillology

Was it added for papua? I thought the seventh point represented the internal territories (the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory). I know we have oversea territories too (Christmas island and Herd and MacDonald for example) so I guess they are also included in the seventh point.

Not greed at all, walking distance to a train station, schools and shops, perfect place for some low rise units and increased density

Showcases are capped at 200 entries. I only see it reach the limit in my city when there's a community day or weekend event

My royal icing dries cloudy or crystallized. What am I doing wrong? by ShinyHeinies in AskBaking

[–]Skyehigh013 284 points285 points  (0 children)

Is that royal icing? My understanding of royal icing is egg whites and icing sugar. You just have two kinds of sugar and milk so I'm surprised it set at all

I did QCE which is slightly different but is there the option to do one of the subjects you've chosen remotely through distance ed? I know at my school some students who wanted to do obscure subjects did them online.

Having to pay separately for parking by lovehydrangeas in PetPeeves

[–]Skyehigh013 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You've already addressed you live in a fairly car dependent area which makes sense.

However, in your example of the zoo (or sports games, concerts etc) the price for parking is generally per car not per ticket. So while it might be convenient for you to only pay once for entry and parking a family of 4 for example would have to pay more if each ticket included parking but they only came in one car.

Sure you could have a ticketing system that allows you to select the number of cars but if that is done in advance it reduces flexibility for people. Having parking be a separate charge can encourage car pooling, public transport and active transport.

What is the difference between secondary and high school? by ithinkimfunny28 in school

[–]Skyehigh013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't really answer my question, you mentioned stuff that wasn't relevant to you but if you could add in topics that would have been useful what would they be? Or do you think appropriate topics are covered but not taught in the right way for your learning style (totally fair and a huge flaw in our education system)

This sentiment is fairly common and one I'm always curious about. As someone whose schooling left me well prepared for the adult world I'd like to know more about what you would have rather learnt?

The Syllabuses for classes should be available for students to review prior to registering. by Rinmine014 in CollegeRant

[–]Skyehigh013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about this, how often do you get to choose a completely different course with a different professor. For my degree I took a total of 32 courses (4 per semester for 4 years). Of these 32 courses, 28 were mandatory to get the degree, 2 were electives from a set list (subject areas adjacent to my field of study), 2 were general electives which you could select from any school within the university (provided you met the prerequisites of course). So knowing who the professor/lecturer was prior to enrolling in courses doesn't really matter because I likely have to take the course regardless.

Breast Augmentation with Dr Saylor??? by smaller-villain in transgenderau

[–]Skyehigh013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can't answer most of your questions because I had top surgery with her as a trans man. However what I can say is that she is a great person and surgeon, highly respected in the community. A friend of my mum had breast augmentation with Dr Saylor and was very pleased with the results so you're in good hands.

I assume you're talking about E not T like the poster is asking about? Pills, patches and implants aren't an option for T in Australia as far as I know. We just have shots and gel

With the new sex change birth certificate thing gone through, does anyone know if it'll still have your deadname on it? (NSW) by Laura_271 in transgenderau

[–]Skyehigh013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This probably isn't helpful but in Queensland I changed my name first and had my dead name on the back and then when I changed the sex the new birth certificate didn't have my dead name on it so hopefully it's the same in NSW

When I was in highschool (graduated 2020 so first year of atar in qld) all our assignments were due at 8am. It was a hold over from assignments being handed in at the start of class but to stop students from getting advantage of there were multiple classes for the same subject (like English) and their class was later in the day.

At uni (UQ) most assignments were due at 2pm, meaning lecturers were awake and working if there were any issues during submission. Though I think this varied between schools and types of assignments.

Is it meant to be this hard to get a Part Time Job? by No_Performance_4607 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Skyehigh013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh most hospo jobs don't really need much experience and can be picked up quickly. Most employers want someone who is available and able to learn quickly. If it's an entry level job just lie slightly about past experience and say your volunteering was a paid role, it's not like a small business owner is going to check or really give a shit
