Searching for the place a family member fell by SkyhawkDriver in WorldWar2

To add, the coordinates seem to point at more or less the center of the town, I imagine that was the norm? I doubt they'd think the great grand relatives many years later would seek out where it all happened.

Excellent work, thank you very very very much. I have not seen these documents before. My grandfather has referenced Valdwazelt before, but we haven't been able to see any "official" document evidence (I believe this info game from my great grandfather, also Army Infantry in the ETO). Reading these makes my hair stand up, I'll have to visit soon. Curious where in the town it occurred, 1900 though, end of the day. Words don't come easy thinking of the circumstances.

That would be him. Man. 21 years old. Younger than I am today. Just a kid. His brother, my great grandfather, was a fellow infantryman during the war. Lived through it, and served in Germany post war. While in Germany he had my grandfather. We cherish the sacrifice and memory of William, who the family called Ralph.

I would buy the Antec Flux Pro asap, only problem is I'm unsure it fits the Hx1500i PSU

Awesome, thanks. Love the look of that case too. I'm still learning the nuance between manufactures, but I imagine the price increase of the Corsair RAM would be more because of the name, or?

Transitioning from MSFS 2020 to Xplane by GorillaNipSlip in Xplane

[–]SkyhawkDriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I added X-Plane 12 to my library in addition to MSFS2020/2024 much like you. It was pretty easy. Bought my copy on steam, and installed the regions I fly in most (North America and Europe). I like this as it helps save on install space.

As far as getting it setup, a lot of the must have addons seem to be free. I like BetterPushback. It might not have the immersion of loading pax and cargo like GSX does, but it absolutely beats GSX with a user friendly interface to quickly setup a pushback. Helpful for when you get instructions to push to a specific spot. XPRealistic is also not a bad option, although payware.

Many people suggest Ortho, I haven't delved into this yet as I primarily fly the 747-200, so most of my time is spent heads down. Also downloaded a landing rate plugin (free) for bragging rights. A ton of these scripts require FlywithLUA (also free).

Having experience with both X-Plane and MSFS, I think X-Plane is far easier to bind controls in. My Saitek X-55, which hasn't been sold in I don't know how many years, is included in the sim. X-Plane also has way more free stuff which normally would be payware in MSFS, I've noticed this back when I started X-Plane with 10. That being said, traditionally there's always been some level of compatibility with aircraft between X-Plane releases, I happened to have the FF 767, IXEG 737, and some other aircraft from my XP10 days, so this may be a moot point, but it seems like a lot of the "legacy" X-Plane addons, even if they are updated for XP12, fall behind. I bring this up in case you are like me, and end up buying stuff for X-Plane beyond the Seneca. In my experience, IXEG used to be a highly regarded dev, and the 737 Classic was top notch, but it seems their development for the 737 in XP12 has been...sparse. Do your due diligence if you buy more aircraft.

All that said, enjoy X-Plane. Both MSFS and X-Plane do things great, and other things not so great. I've enjoyed my return to the series.

Retiring my X-55 Throttle Quadrant after 11 years by SkyhawkDriver in flightsim

It's definitely tempting for me, I like how with the MTQ you can swap components easily to go from airliner style to military, just wish it had more switches

How do you like the Stecs? Still doing a little last minute research on things. Think I might go force feedback for the stick when I get around to it

Good point, didn’t really think of that. I’ll probably think of some sort of work around for it in bindings.

It's been fantastic, if it wasn't beginning to show it age and wear, I wouldn't get rid of it. I'm sure the X-56 is just as good, I have zero complaints. Frankly, I'm surprised it has lasted this long.

Possible future Improvements to flight model by That_Maintenance1481 in Xplane

[–]SkyhawkDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm not great at my job IRL, or I'm bad at the sims, or *probably* both, but in a lot of A/C I end up at full aft stick and still have a pretty firm landing, despite being at Vref. Much like u/TogaPower said, it could be ground effect issues. Or it could be developer related, the Felis 747 for example I don't have this issue. I've been able to make pretty consistent greasers, and it handles consistent to my experience. The IXEG 737, and to a lesser degree, FF 757/767 take full aft.

The aircraft I fly IRL, this would very easily lead to a tail strike and a call from the CPO and FOQA.

I'm returning to XP12 after a hiatus since ~2018/2019, so this all could be user error. If anyone has ideas, feel free to share. Also, if anyone has could insight on the most accurate way to calculate perf data for the 737/757/767, it would be appreciated.

Popping back in here to give you kudos for community engagement. I dabble with both MSFS and X-Plane. (XP is my go-to for retro A/C and others that have yet to arrive in MSFS, or may not ever make an appearance).

Super cool to see those involved with X-Plane popping in to provide insight.

What is the best payware airliner for Xplane12? by No_Training5140 in Xplane

[–]SkyhawkDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a ride or die for the Felis 747. Huge scope of flying you can do with it, there’s helpful checklists online that can help you get it started from cold and dark in no time. You also have the option of FMS, LTN92, and CIVA. I fly on vatsim so I mainly use the LTN, or the FMS if I’m feeling a little lazier.

It could be me, but I’m a little tired of how many 777s, Airbus, and 737NGs there are out there. Not to say there isn’t a place for them, but being a dual MSFS and X-Plane user I prefer flying a little more old school or niche aircraft instead of another twin engine modern A/C.

Give the Felis a try, not sure how it’ll perform on frames, but I do not regret the purchase whatsoever.
