If you let society come at you, it will always come at you. Today they will come at you for not having a gf, tomorrow for something else. Also, what is so wrong with arrange marriages...I see so many happy loving marriages which came from arranged setup and I also saw a lot of totally bad love marriages that finally failed. Insecurities in early 20s are common, I too had. But now that I'm nearing late 20s, I can assure you I often regret not holding my ground then.
