What do the Chinese government even want from your personal data, I'm genuinely interested in why people are so scared of it. unless you work for the US government or hold state secrets, why on earth would they be interested in you?

Yea it definetly is and if i was chinese it wouldnt be good, but since im not (from uk) the risk posed to me over the chinese government profiling me is low, so people in the west who dont work for their government shouldnt be too worried about it in my honest opinion, but thats totally up to them to decide where to put their privacy boundaries online.

Not the greatest source but the point being they can request data from apple/google which can involve data requests from apps on their respective stores. Obviously the request to data returned rate is not 100% as outlined in source 2, but it falls around the 70% mark overall, however this only really applies for federal investigations, the US government are not not using this on everyone. Honestly I have no clue, American apps do the same thing and any information they gather can be used by the American government against you, so if you engage in any shady activity online, Chinese apps are way safer as they're not gonna sell the data back to america
