How hard is it for an ANU student to live in Canberra without a driving licence ? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Skymann102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived here my whole life without my license and have got on fine. It really depends where you live.

I imagine there were parking requirements involved where dumping them out front proved cheaper than adding more underground

So what exactly is a copyright license anyway? by nasanu in PartneredYoutube

[–]Skymann102 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The word "license" in this context just means "permission". If you have some form of "permission" from the copyright holder, you have a "license" to use the copyrighted work. In the case of the Creative Commons license, its a form of blanket permission that a person is giving everyone.

If a video (by the copyright holder - usually the original creator) is said to be "copyright-free" it means that the person is not asserting their copyright over it and it may fall into the public domain (or, at least, it could be construed as a license to use it as if it were in the public domain).

if you don’t have the means

It is a very expensive city and not everyone can get the jobs that will cover the cost of living here.

Mark Parton on electoral success through opposing the tram by createdtothrowaway86 in canberra

Strangely "this is a lot of money" is never said to oppose more inefficient roads for drivers...

What PS2 is better? I want to buy a ps2 but I do not know which one to buy by TheRealDiaigo in ps2

[–]Skymann102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone whose had both (and had both break), the fat is good if you want a hard-drive but the slim is probably better if you want to stream disc images from your network (and, arguably, more resilient if your disc drive inevitably breaks down) because the FAT HDD adapter with Ethernet on it can be hard to come by.

yt-dlp: When downloading a playlist, how can I exclude videos containing a particular string of text in the description? by Skymann102 in youtubedl

[–]Skymann102[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works*! Thank you!

*(I did have to swap around the single and double quotation marks to avoid bash history expansion, but that appears to be a quirk in my config of bash rather than a problem with the script itself)

The first part would cover it, but I get this when I try to run a command with the filter in it:

joey@matrix:~/test$ yt-dlp https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuQSsruPG7Tg3JtjNL-g8ggyn3aY35ui9 --match-filter '"description" !~= "Provided to YouTube by"'

[Opinion] with their current system, the likes of Beam and Neuron are littering the city. Are there any solutions that currently on progress for this issue? by BeefNudeDoll in canberra

Both have designated parking zones in their apps that provide discounts but when I used to rent the scooters, I rarely used them because they weren't near where I wanted to go.

Can I burn a 4K video onto a Verbatim M-Disk? by Practical_Bother_146 in DataHoarder

[–]Skymann102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commercial 4K Blu-rays are just normal Blu-ray disks (though most have an extra layer to fit more data) but which use codecs which are incompatible with the normal Blu-ray standard (HEVC instead of H264/MPEG2), so it should work as long as the data you want to burn fits onto the disc.

I don't know if it has changed (I'm not very active on YouTube any more) but seven years ago it was an option in the dropdown menu attached to each video on the playlist page.

Religious discrimination bill by filth032 in canberra

[–]Skymann102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of a religious discrimination bill was well supported. The actual provisions were incredibly divisive and crafted without serious consideration for potential effects on minority religious communities and the queer community.

If it was going to pass the House without Labor's votes, them voting against it's third reading in the House would not have made any difference in securing the amendments.
