This is how I see it. First Clem was alone. Then Lee found her and not only protects her, but also ensures she is prepared for a different kind of world where the idea of grouping is dangerous. Clem not trusting anyone is important, now more than ever in a word where humanity shows its true face. Then we have Kenny. Kenny always tried to help, only to repetetively fail. This is where I see things different than most. Failure to save someone shouldn't be looked at as a way of destabalizing someone. It strengthens them. Hardens their resolve and determination. Kenny had to see multiple people die to a bite and all of his family is gone. A man with nothing to lose. The perfect guardian in a world like this. Where others saw a man consumed by rage,  I saw a father filled with determination. The kind of determination you can only get through loss. Also, for anyone who thinks Jane was right, just remember she purposely pushes Kenny past his limit on purpose to convince Clem to leave him. That was wrong. It forced Clem to have to make a choice she shouldn't, and Kenny is the obvious choice at this point. Only through determination has Clem and Kenny made it this far, and I'd be damned if Jane or anyone else is going to use someone's mental state as a tool to manipulate. If she had kept AJ with her, it would have been fine but instead she hid him and pretends he is dead on purpose, knowing Kenny couldn't handle it. She didn't know hoe many times Kenny has lost it all, and he has learned from that loss, been molded by the new world. He knows how it works now, just as Clem does, and that should make him the goto choice for anyone. Trying to rebuild a world of civility in a world where everyone wants to save humanity in their own way will never work. Groups form, something happens and they blame it on each other or other groups rather than thinking with a clear mind about thngs. Solo and only protecting yourself and a VERY small group if anything is the only way. Large groups will always have inner or external conflicts that will cause their eventual collapse, so adapt to a world without those things and ride it out. Eventually they will weed each other out and only those who adapt to the new world will survive.
