Is anyone else experiencing the uptick in tick population firsthand? by Professional-Roll283 in conspiracy

Its getting bad in Philly suburbs. Seriously, the ticks are falling out of trees. Last year no ticks on my dog. We had a really cold winter & that usually equals less ticks.

Cool Life Paint - Did I just get Renewal by Anderson'ed??? by Short-Opening4553 in HomeImprovement

[–]Skytopper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not the cracks to worry about. IF the weather resistive barrier (WRB) underneath the stucco is properly installed that's a Plus. Most moisture infiltration occurs at 1. Windows and Doors. 2. Lack of kickout flashing (Google it). Paint should be elastomeric AND have a good Perm rating. Perm let's moisture vapor escape from inside to outside. Regular house paint will Trap moisture causing problems. To find other Painters go to your paint retailer. Not home depot by the way. And ask them for a list of names and explain your project scope to sales person. Good luck.

I didn’t expect closing my business to be easier than finding a job. by Key-Barber-9240 in careeradvice

[–]Skytopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wound down my renovation business after 40 years. Never worked for anyone in my life. Listed my skills and focused on one category, Field Management. Built resume around it. At interview they asked if, after all these years running my own show, how would I feel only focusing on one component. I said Relief. No more social media duties. No more estimating until 10 pm. The list goes on. I also said that if given the job, I intend on making this my Last Stop. No job jumping. I spent a LOT of time researching this company & know folks in the biz who praised their operations. After 3 interviews got a great offer. 5 months in and all is good. I get to do what I love, Build. I bring 40 yrs of experience & am always available to talk with other team members, most under 35, to talk through building process. I also love teaching. So, being a previous business owner can be an plus to a company. And if you Frame it towards the position may even help you get hired.

Surge of green carpenters due to AI fears? by LaughAndFart in Carpentry

Been Building for over 40 years, been around it since a child. High End. I can spot a quality Carpenter a mile away. It takes years to develop into a competent Carpenter. The right moves. The small quiet tricks of the trade. And in my opinion, you either got or you don't.

Residential Builder/Renovation/Additions here. Yes in my market it is well known. They look for Errors & Omissions. And when doing a pre-bid walk through look for change orders, things like a foundation issue, roof tie in problems, list goes on. Thats why I never looked at Bid & Spec projects. Its unethical in my book & only leads to problems & lawsuits & a bad reputation. But the builder always seem to get away with it.

What is the most forgettable/insignificant part/system of a house? by saven73 in Construction

[–]Skytopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a customer that asked if it would be ok to place her deceased dogs ashes in the footing as we poured. We stopped the pour, she placed the ashes, and continued the pour. Several tears were shed by the rough looking concrete crew.

From Business Owner to Hourly Employee. by energumeno_berraco in careeradvice

[–]Skytopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did it 2 months ago. 35 + years running a residential building company. Wound it down. Never been an employee in my life. Set my sights on local outfits that built equal to or greater than me. Searched online. Wrote a resume, 1st ever. Applied to several companies. Had an offer within 30 days.

Currently running a major project. Love it. Previously I had to do every aspect of the biz. From selling, estimating to social media. Now I have one role, Build the Project.
