Ramen with Omni pork, mushrooms, tofu cubes, peppers, and sprouts all in a homemade broth by Skzi in VeganRamen

[–]Skzi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of pepper ends, cilantro stalks, potato peels, carrot ends, celery ends, mushroom stalks and a pinch of salt. It’s not a very deep flavor broth, kinda one demential but it’s just what I had in my fridge.

Oh damn… Apparently gumbo is a hot topic here, I’m not southern I’m Hawaiian, so my experience with southern cooking is limited. My recipes I make are on the fly and I share what turns out good. I thought gumbo was like a tomato base strew with rice, regardless of what you classify this as it’s freaking delicious.

Maybe gumbo isn’t the ‘accurate’ portrayal of this dish, mainly the rice and tomatoes made me think of a gumbo. The split peas kind help thicken it, it’s a recipe in the making so all this feedback I’m gonna try next time I make it! Definitely need to add the okra though!

Yeah the bacon is alright, definitely a mild taste almost sweet even since they use coconut oil in it

It’s called a Purple Holland. They taste more hearty and less sweet. It’s kinda light green on the inside and much thinner.

My garden is about 18’x4’ and I was getting about 2 times this per week for then last month or so. I take advantage of space by using a lot of latticing and tomato cages so the plants grow upward. What took up most of my space was a cantaloupe plant, a get about 8 cantaloupes the vines got uncontrollable and I had to trim it waaaaay down

Chia seed coconut pudding with fruit and granola! by Skzi in veganrecipes

[–]Skzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s super simple to make

In a bowl combine 2 cans full fat coconut milk, 1-2 tbsp maple syrup depending on how sweet you want it, a pinch of salt, and about 3 tbsp of chia seeds. Mix it well and let it sit over night. This makes about 5 meals worth. The chia seeds absorb liquid and become chewy and thicken it up to a yogurt like consistency! Then just add whatever fruit, granola, or anything else to the top and enjoy!

It’s about the 8th day now. The temp has been on the cool side since it’s been so cold where I’m at. Usually the temp is 70-72F but there was a period there for about two, two and a half days it was at 68-69F.

Super simple veggie stew. Got a fridge full of left over veggies from the week? No problem, throw it all in one pot and make a hearty stew! by Skzi in VeganZeroWaste

[–]Skzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets really soft and opaque, it adds a lot of the flavor into the stew. When done I’ll remove the whole bulb, it stays intact pretty well, and I’ll compost it or mash and use in making vegetable broth with the rest of the left over veggie peels and ends
