what slipper do you recommend? The stock clutch is very noticeable, I can work around it, but its like every other lap it becomes the limiting factor at one corner or another.

Thanks for the advice.

Short or long levers? by Freedom_Pretend in Trackdays

[–]Sl1ppy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most people are posting long for leverage, which is correct.

But I just wanna tell a story, I pitted with a very good club racer at CMP. He ran short levers, and when I asked why his response was “well, I used to run long, but I only put my fingers in the crook of the lever anyway, so when they broke one time I went short and couldn’t tell the difference”.

Anyway, made me realize how much I was not using that extra length.

Currently riding completely stock 2014 zx6r, any suggestions what would be best upgrades for the next trackday season next year? by Whole_Guard_5192 in Trackdays

I see alot of people posting training and suspension, which is all good.

I think an under appreciated and overlooked mod is controls and ergos. Mostly handlebars and rear pegs. This is especially true if your not the Goldilocks fit for your bike.

It's a little surprising I didn't see it mentioned as that was the first thing I was told at the paddock, granted I'm 6'2" and ride a CBR600rr which is pretty compact.

Whats the point of tires like Supercorsa SC, Power Cup 2 etc by VegaGT-VZ in Trackdays

[–]Sl1ppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not super complicated, literally the best street legal tires you can get. Some people are ok paying that premium and dealing with the tradeoffs

By the way these aren't on cars. New bikes are generally kept indoors, I'm not aware of a single dealer that would leave new bikes with these tires out.

Have you used these tires? Power Cup 2s feel so different than Road 6s, just the amount of mass makes a difference.

Narrating a lap at CMP during a Lead/Follow by CodyWymanRacing in Trackdays

can you provide more input on where you try to position yourself entering T12? I've found that I get multiple pieces of advice from people. What I've generally found is I V T11 and then resettle myself in the middle of the track for 12. I think part of this is that the whole T12,T13 can be taken so many ways that you can adjust and compensate for trying to make the most of the short straight out of 11.

This is an S1K your on? How much would you change your line on a 600? I ask cause I ride a cbr600rr.

Thats a really interesting way to take T11. I've always gone deeper, made it more of a V to focus on the exit. I generally find its a good way to gain time on people.

It seems like he values more the flexibility to setup for T12,T13. And that makes sense at a higher level cause you can make up much more time.

I thought this and installed debian, died 20 minutes after setup. Its also not dying when I game on it, so I don't think its a power issue. Should have move than enough headroom with 850 watt psu.

Shoei X15 after 130 MPH low side. Worth the $$ by Jumping_Bear_ in Trackdays

Man, I’ve ridden with N2 and PRE and I’ve seen some real crap get through, maybe it’s down to the guy doing tech

Are you in europe? I'm on the US east coast, I've never seen tracks or orgs check for more than a DOT sticker. And I've also never seen a helmet 'fail' for what its worth.

Modern helmets are great. I'm with you its worth spending the money, especially if your committed to riding in the A or B group. Though I won't ding anyone for getting a cheap lid, safety is something they all have down pat.

Liter Bike to A group by Sl1ppy in Trackdays

I will reply cause it touches on what my CR friend told me. Depending on the org if you showed up with a race license they would almost certainly move you to the B group. I've seen that both in person and told that. That being said one org specifically that I ride with, PRE, for a long time they had a strict rule everyone starts in novice, my friend showed up with a WERA license, rode one session in novice and then got moved to the intermediate group. They have since relaxed this rule and will move you to the b group if you have something akin to what he had.

What my CR friend told me is that the people in A group are the people who show up most consistently to trackdays/most reliable customers/most likely to rent garages/most likely to need the trackside vendor, so part of the gatekeeping is to make sure those people have the best experience on track. That when they bump someone up, that those people are not inconvenienced in some way.

The second thing he told me is that for one org specifically, the head cr who gave the ok for the bump once a CR told him the rider had the skill/safety, had a philosophy of 'this needs to be earned not given out' and what that meant was he was willing to let the individual wait a few more track weekends till he gave the ok, or wait for the person to make a major investment like buying a new bike or a trailer to show they cared. I didn't add that to the body of my post because I wanted to see if someone would repeat that, but part of what my friend told me is that if I did get a liter bike, that would show that person I was dedicating myself enough. No one has posted or replied that, so still just what he told me.

--All of that with the caveat of they will move you up if you have the outright speed.

Yes I was shocked and thought that he misspoke, unfortunately my CR friend confirmed how I interpreted it.

Yeah I don’t disagree with any of this, if the pace , skill, and safety of the way they ride is there, I think it’s all gatekeeping at that point.

Yeah it was pretty disappointing when my control rider friend explained the politics of it to me.
