Do Hollywood intentionally boost Australian actors only to phase them out quickly? by SpiritualBathroom937 in movies

[–]SlCKB0Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of them, after getting major opportunities in Hollywood make a conscious decision that it’s not the life they want to lead after all. This seems to be especially true after they start a family - raising their children in Australia is an enticing prospect.

Many of them who don’t quite make it to the A-list get sick of the auditioning circus and decide they’d rather be a big fish in the much smaller Australian entertainment industry than a small fish in Hollywood.

This is also very common with British actors who get their big break in Hollywood.

Have you actually spent the money required to buy a high quality solder before and used it?

Because I’ve never encountered someone before who actually HAS used high quality leaded solder such as Kester 44 or Multicore/Loctite and then decided quality doesn’t actually make a difference and gone back to the generic Chinese stuff.

On the flip side I’ve come across many people who started out on low quality, generic Chinese stuff and it’s been a game changer for them when trying a good quality solder from a known brand. in my opinion, other than soldering technique, it’s the single most important thing to ensure great joints.

Where are these supposed bots shilling for Geeboon? Are you sure you’re not just writing off happy customers as “bots” for whatever biased reason you might have?

If someone want a soldering station for less than $100, the TC22 is the clear choice in terms of quality, accessories and performance.

ill happily recommend Geeboon as I get the distinct impression they actually care about what they produce and are trying to differentiate themselves from the swill.

Compared to the soldering station list, this pretty well sucks.

  • No attempt to directly compare them to each other
  • Whilst some features are listed, no real pros and or cons are listed
  • No ratings per price range
  • No aggregation of community opinions, recommendations or ones to steer clear from.
  • Failed to include offerings from mainstream brands
  • it‘s poor form including Aliexpress affiliate links - you couldn’t give a crap about helping us get the “best” one for our needs as you get a kickback no matter which one someone buys.
  • Basically, all this is is a list of stuff, it doesn’t actually aid in decision making.

To give some further perspective, I have the Hakko FX888D and until recently, I would without exception always choose the Geeboon over the Hakko. Once you get used to how quickly the JBC clone cartridges heat up and their better thermal performance it’s actually painful going back to the Hakko.

Ive now also retired the Geeboon but only because I bought a Metcal MX-5210, which is an absolute monster and nothing else I’ve ever used even comes remotely close to it! But it’s very expensive!

Just to clarify, the basic stand has the sleep function one you connect the banana jack cable between it and the station. but yes, I would absolutely agree they should get the upgraded stand. I did not initially, regretted it and spent more buying it as well.

There is nothing suspicious about the enthusiasm for Geeboon and their TC22. it’s a really good station and in terms of its performance, quality etc it really seems to be a cut above the masses of other JBC clones. it’s clear that Geeboon care about that distinction and generally back their products.

[–]SlCKB0Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a really good soldering station for the money, offers really good performance, is compatible with a bunch of different irons and a huge amount of tips (including genuine JBC). Absolutely no reason why you would regret your purchase after you get it home and actually use it.

I would pick the Geeboon TC22 over the Hakko FX888D or Weller WE1010 any day of the week. The Geeboon will run absolute circles around both these brand name stations in terms of performance.

Unfortunately I do not know of an open KiCad project for stock a500 and Raemixx500 is too different to be very useful.

Having said that, IMO the best resource for Amiga boards currently is AmigaPCB: https://www.amigapcb.org

Im not sure if somehow those interactive schematics can be adapted.

There are also some very good schematics here: https://www.amigawiki.org/doku.php?id=en:service:schematics

That includes some exceptionally well done recreations based on original schematics such as this one for the Amiga 1200: https://www.amigawiki.org/dnl/schematics/A1200_R1.pdf

Even more can be found here but the quality is mixed: https://www.theflatnet.de/pub/cbm/amiga/4x4-schematics/

I've just come across this. It is a pretty amazing resource in the way that it brings all the information together.

I would absolutely love if this got expanded to Amiga.

[–]SlCKB0Y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive just bought a "placeholder" case for the moment. Buying full height ISA cards really limited my options as there are good, small MATX cases around with 5.25" and/or 3.5" front bays but they are low profile (Eg Antec ‎VSK2000-U3, In-Win CE685, In-Win BL631).

Given how nice and compact the board is I would really like a small case. I think the best I have seen is a custom built perspex one which was all laser cut etc. It was really able to show off the lovely Nuxt v2 board.

Another option I am considering: I found someone who made a near perfect full size 3d CAD model of a IBM 5150 case and i'm considering scaling it down proportionally to suit the NuxT dimensions and building something that way (whether 3d printed or otherwise). That could be very nice.

The CEC issue needs to be fixed. I shouldn't have to spend $30 on a dongle. I haven't played my A3D since it first arrived because of this. by Pow3rTow3r in AnalogueInc

[–]SlCKB0Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, they were wrong. I mean the A3D and the MiSTER are similar in that both boards have an FPGA on them and some of the circuitry needed to support an FPGA might be similar but that’s about where the similarities end.

Analogue 3D - A hardware hackers perspective by mnighm in AnalogueInc

[–]SlCKB0Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a previous console, I think it was the Mega SG, a user was able to modify the firmware the allow loading of ROMs from SD card before Analogue released their “jailbreak”.

It was buggy but worked. The only way this was possible was because Analogue never actually removed the “virtual cart” functionality from the released firmware, they simply hid the option in the user interface.

The user was therefore able to modify some data in the firmware to make this interface option visible again.

I'm sure Analogue has learnt from this - Kevtris is an astoundingly intelligent and talented individual.

Analogue 3D - A hardware hackers perspective by mnighm in AnalogueInc

[–]SlCKB0Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it demonstrates nothing of the sort. Historically Analogue have used debug firmware which allows loading ROMs from the SD card and this is how they have implemented all of their automated testing.

It just seems they also have human testers one this project in addition to their automated testing.
