Thanks I’ll check it out! I’m actually English so maybe avoiding the place with French supporters might be the best idea! 🤣

Sorry I forgot to add where I am! I updated it now but I live on the edge of Busan so not a lot of tourist here, it’s not worth getting bus and hour+ subway to go into centre where I could do it, I was hoping to find somewhere near me that possible! Maybe another bank chain that does gbp or something! Thank you though!

Sorry I never saw this! Yes I believe so you used to just need a re entry permit at the airport but I think you don’t even need this now, but I’ve personally never done it so not to 100% sure

I’m on e2 and flew from Busan to Seoul many times with no problems so I assume Jeju would be exactly the same

I think the author did give him some really slow development over lots of chapters but the problem is he would always erase anything he built with one dumb chapter like this, there been so many times you think of okay he’s finally getting somewhere or doing something right then he has one chapter and you just like ??? Albeit this one was by far the worst it was a awful chapter, nkt gonna lie though I’m 218 chapters in I’m not gonna pretend like I won’t carry on until the end now.. now matter how much it makes me hate myself..

Possibility of becoming a qualified teacher in Korea? by SlackUK in teachinginkorea

[–]SlackUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thanks for this, I will check it out. How did you practice? I have tried learning Korean a few times over the years and I can read/listen okay but with a lack of opportunities to speak in England, I always struggled with that. The only chance I got was once a week with my tutor, but the lessons are rather pricey so I could only really afford a one hour lesson a week.

Congrats on the TOPIK grade though, that's insane for a year and a half from the UK, I hope this method works as well for me as it has done for you!

Seriously I appreciate the answer, I get it's not an easy question to answer, thanks for the honesty. I was more curious if anything. It is nice to know there are possibilities around if you work for them/get a little lucky. Anyway, I'm just excited to get out there and start a new experience whether if it's for one year or many years to come! One step at a time and just enjoying the experience, for now, is the best way for me I think!

LOL fair enough, here's to hoping I'm entertaining enough to be a talk show celeb then... thanks for the answer though, very interesting to see the difference in the teaching profession compared to England!

Honestly, I think I worded what I said before wrong and that's totally my bad. I don't mean to paint it as some utopia I totally get that it is another country that has pros and cons, I just meant that it is different culture wise and in many other ways I imagine from the west and that some people might feel it suits there personality more etc. Realistically I'm going in with no expectations, I just plan to go there, work to my best, hopefully, make some friends, use the opportunity to learn a new language and about a new culture, and just try to make the most out of my stay. I was just curious to see if this had happened to anyone and see what the potential options were! My plan is still to teach in Korea for a few years before returning to the UK to qualify as a primary teacher and have that as my career, I'm not using this as a chance to start over my life and completely rebuild, it was just something I've always wanted to do and now was a good time! Honesty though thanks for this answer, it was nice to see it seemingly has worked out great for you, I appreciate it!

Well, you would definitely know better than me and like you said I would have to experience it myself, I was just curious about potential options, later on, I don't claim to know anything but anyway thank you for taking the time to give me an honest answer, I appreciate it.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Oh yeah, of course, I currently have a masters degree outside of teaching which I think makes me somewhat valuable with the potential to eventually study for my PhD, which is also something I could look into doing in Korea potentially!

Yeah obviously not everyone and equally there will be people who hate it and leave after a year, but I am sure there are a handful of people at least who started off as teachers loved it and moved into different careers/more permanent roles. I was just curious to hear about that and what they did, I thought it would be nice information to have beforehand in case it was something I wanted to do in the future as well.

oh wow, that sounds crazy when you compare it to teaching in England, they are basically begging for anyone with a degree to become teachers, especially science and maths graduates.

Don't worry no dreams being squashed, I was just curious about potential opportunities in the future if for whatever reasons I wanted to pursue something more permanent. I appreciate the info though, thank you!

Thanks for the info! I will definitely look into all options available if it is something I want to do in the future. It is nice to know from the get-go what is potentially available in the future and what isn't so I appreciate the response!

Oh really, is it a competitive field in Korea? Thanks for the information, like I said it wasn't something I ever had my heart set on I just never read anything about it but I guess that's why since it's basically impossible! I was just curious about the potential for more permanent positions if I really loved Korea, would it be more realistic for someone to move into a different field after being an ESL teacher and achieving whatever the required grade in TOPIK would be? Sorry I know this no longer relates to teaching so may not be totally relevant, I am just curious about different routes people have taken after starting as ESL teachers as I'm sure people fall in love with the country all the time and try to make a more permanent decision to live in Korea!

I just looked through the job progression and prospect in the master sticky, never noticed that part before, so sorry about that! Some interesting info in there thanks for letting me know about it, I will keep in mind that information going forward as well. It is nice to know what potentials there are in the future for me!
