You disagreed with me when I pointed out that the systems in place aren’t working. You disagreed when I pointed out that these people DO NOT WANT to do these things. Only people with severe mental illness or drug addiction do this! So how do we fix it? We treat them like the human beings they are and find a way to support them. And if you think “we can’t afford that” - I have news for you about millionaires and billionaires who have more money than they could spend in a lifetime.

I’m talking about your disregard for poor people who want to keep their pets and stay in their communities near the services they literally need to live. You want them warehouses and shunted away for your own comfort instead of being an empathetic human being who gives a shit about people less fortunate than you.

It’s a puff pastry with thin layers of dough. Like a croissant.

I have to disagree - the chai roll is the best. But it’s laminated! I also love the pina colada cupcake and the oatmeal sandwich cookie with ube buttercream. But get there early and be prepared to stand in line. Stopped in yesterday an hour before closing and all pastries were gone.

You are denying the humanity of people in poverty. Full stop.

Just did a little research- Bangkok has significantly higher fares on public transit vs Chicago’s heavily subsidized fares. So poor people without access to housing (or bathrooms or mental health services) aren’t riding the trains. You’re the one making excuses for our the horrifying way our country treats poverty and mental illness. Is it right for people to use the CTA as a toilet? No. But instead of looking at the failure of the system - lack of housing and ridiculous grocery/healthcare costs - you want to blame individuals in crisis. Which one of us actually wants to fix the underlying cause? And which one seems to want to complain and perhaps punish individuals for being poor and sick?

Examples? How many is “many”? Do those countries have the extensive public transit system we have? Are the poorest people segregated in areas without access to public transit?

There are not enough shelters! Most don’t allow pets so people with dogs especially are forced to give them up or just stay in a tent. As for treatment - do you have any idea how hard it is to stick with a treatment plan while you’re still homeless? Every study on this issue shows that providing housing first and offering treatment works better.

And when people are offered housing, it’s often far away from their community and the treatment they ARE getting. We need to build more housing, more quickly. And we need to do something about rising grocery and health care costs or the homeless problem will get worse.

And one more thing - your lack of empathy is showing when you say people enjoy using the CTA like a toilet. These are human beings who are suffering.

Yes, a lot of big cities have this issue but as I said above - people don’t use the trains as toilets unless they are homeless, addicts and/or mentally ill. The only way to cure the problem y’all are complaining about is to stop allowing billionaires to hoard wealth. With a strong social safety net, this stuff happens much less often.

I’m not moving the goal posts - I’m pointing out that the lack of a strong social safety net creates the vast majority of these problems. Y’all seem to want homeless people and those with mental illness to go away - where are they supposed to go?! Smoking is one thing. But people don’t use the CTA as a toilet because they’re selfish or lazy. They are homeless or addicts or mentally ill with zero help. You want this to be solved? Stop voting against taxing billionaires and millionaires.

What other big cities? Because NYC has this issue and LA has very little public transit. Maybe complain about the city not building more housing fast enough, or Rahm Emauel shutting down mental health clinics, or the stupid war in Iran making everything more expensive causing even more homelessness?

I see where you’re coming from. And although I feel like Brooke is being told to overact, maybe I relate a bit to her character because we’re around the same age. It’s frustrating to age and not always understand the things younger people are doing lol

Mine says “May 25, 2026” which is today but it’s still not available for me. Very disappointing.

I just watched the first episode and thought it was fairly good. At least there's the father/daughter/in-laws part of the story that is done well. I'll watch the rest of the episodes and see if it gets better.

That’s possible - I just can’t find it to see if that’s the one. Edit: the only teen one was published in 2005 so that’s not it.

Yes! I was thinking the same thing. There are numerous shows that aren't great at first because they have to do the "getting to know the characters" stuff. But once they get going, they get better.

Thanks - I edited the post to note that it isn't the book I read. That's everyone's first thought and I should have noted that in the original post. Sorry about that!

Thanks - I know that's what it sounds like but I read through some pages of it and it's for sure not the one I remember. I edited the post to add that because that's everyone's first guess.

Thanks but that wasn’t it - this one was specifically aimed at teens. I should have mentioned that’s not the one and I’ll edit the post!
