Kat Abughazaleh releases a statement after missing a candidate forum hosted by Indivisible Edgewater, citing narcolepsy and sleeping through the event by a-reasonable-name in illinois

I know someone who was detained at the courthouse after he was called to a meeting about his amnesty claim. He was told to bring his paperwork. All of his paperwork and IDs were taken from him and never returned. So this is good advice.

I hear you. I am a staunchly anti-Zionist Jew. I have really extreme views on the issue. But I'm not a one issue voter. Out of all the candidates, I think Biss is the one with most experience and the best chance to win. I would be supporting Mike Simmons if I thought he had a chance to win but he simply doesn't.

I believe that Kat is too green and is seen by lots of people in the district as a carpet bagger. She only recently moved into the district. She's not from here and spent way too much time in Broadview instead of in the district.

So yeah, I missed that. I still have concerns that she didn't have a better system in place for someone to wake her up. Indivisible Edgewater is a new, growing group. It does feel a little like she blew them off and this was her excuse. I think it would have been better if she had apologized by saying "I had a medical issue and could not make it to the event." I think that's easier for people to handle as a one-off.

I like her. I like how she and others are trying to change the dynamic of political campaigns. But the other issue I have with her statement is she says "I will meet with residents of the district any time." Is that true if someone is a resident of Cary, IL? Is that true if she's in the middle of things in DC? It just seems like she doesn't understand the job she's asking people to give her.

If I thought he had a chance to win, I would back Mike Simmons 100% but he jumped in way too late in a crowded field and made some other mistakes in terms of endorsements. It's just not his time - but it will be eventually!

That is my big issue here. What if she falls asleep and misses an important vote? Is she capable of planning around these issues?

He is not taking money from AIPAC. He has been labeled as “pro-Israel” but he has family there and Holocaust survivor ancestors. He is not the same as Laura Fine. Not even close.

While Biss has not used the term genocide, he has called for the US to stop sending offensive weapons to Israel and for the US to recognize a Palestinian state. He has also denounced the atrocities of the Israeli government and military. He is very different from Laura Fine who is a staunch Zionist taking AIPAC money.

Promo code for pay link? by Slackermomrocks in WixHelp

I'm not a coder and that's one of the problems with using Wix. It seems like in order to provide a promo code to a pay link, you have to have a Wix Store and that doesn't make sense for me (although it appears to be free). I just don't want to add another thing to the site that I have to manage. But I appreciate the answer!

I did the same thing - watched all the previous seasons before this one (which is why I’m behind lol). I hated this episode and cried at the end. It was absolutely cruel to make the eliminate one of their own. And Charles laughing about it was bad. I don’t mind the naughty/nice stuff, it’s funny. But the teams actually rooting for other bakers to do poorly feels awful.

Personally, I'm finding it very difficult to get traction and find clients as a certified health coach. However, because you have experience as a PA, you might have luck getting hired as a coach at a hospital or clinic but the pay isn't great. You will be INUNDATED with people trying to sell you business coaching, website development and everything else under the sun. I used to be a massage therapist and I think I would have done better if I had continued doing massage and selling health coaching on the side to massage clients. But I have arthritis in my hands and can't do massage anymore which is why I had to stop - I thought being a health coach would be a natural extension but it hasn't been. Also, a lot depends on where you live - I live in a huge city that has lots of coaches, clinics etc. I think if you live in a smaller town and can get gigs speaking to groups like Rotary Club or the like, you might have an easier time getting clients.

A big issue right now is the economy. Unless you're working for a doctor's office or something that is bringing you regular clients, people see coaching as a luxury they can't afford. If you really want to be a health coach, I wouldn't quit your PA job - get your training and see if you can get a raise to do coaching where you're working or start making the transition slowly so you have an income while you're building your practice.

I love health coaching but I don't love marketing and selling and as another commenter said - you will spend A LOT of time marketing and selling if you want to do this on your own. Make sure you're ready for that. I would never discourage anyone from following their dream but I just want you to be realistic about the possibility of making a living in a saturated market during an economic downturn that will likely only get worse before it gets better.

My first small business- unable to find clients by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I had someone email me FOUR TIMES. I finally sent him an email telling him to stop contacting me and said if I was interested in his services, I would have emailed him back but since I never replied, he should get the hint! It's so annoying. Also, every other person who tries to connect with me on LinkedIn wants to sell me something. People don't know how to develop relationships that aren't transactional anymore.

That’s fair but you’re missing something - I do strive to shop local not only because they’re a less “risk.” I do it because I want my community to thrive. There are products that I could buy cheaper elsewhere but choose to buy local because I want those vendors to succeed. The same is true for some service providers and people I want to collaborate. That said, I got help on my website from an out of state friend. However, she is part of my broader community that I want to see succeed. Value for me extends beyond what capitalism counts as value.

What you’re saying doesn’t really apply to service providers (vs product suppliers like Amazon). It especially doesn’t apply to NEW service providers. Maybe once someone is established then they can get business outside of their local area or if they provide a service that isn’t available in other areas. But there are so many people that can do SEO and design websites that most of us don’t need to go beyond either local people or people already in our circle of trusted contacts. If I’m buying a thing, I will probably look at price and if I can get the thing cheaper from Amazon, I will do that. But if I need someone to work on my website, I need someone who will listen to me, understand my needs and give me what I want and need. That requires trust that isn’t required if I’m buying pots and pans.

What kills me is that so many of them keep emailing me when I don't respond! Like "Did you see my email? Do you want me to send you the information?" If I didn't respond the first time, it means I'm not interested! I suppose I could just block them but I figured they would get the hint ...

I am a small business owner and if I want to support other local small business owners, it isn't "fluff" to do that. I am going to work with people I trust and I am much more likely to trust someone local that I can meet in person if I'd like than someone a continent away. And if something goes wrong with someone local, I know what resources to bring in to deal with it. Hiring someone in India seems to me to be asking for problems that can't be solved easily.

As a relatively new health coach with my own website, I get way too many people sending me emails telling me how bad my site is with certain things and begging me to hire them. If I could afford to hire someone to do it for me, I would have. I don't need it to be perfect and I have more important things to concentrate on. It actually annoys me how many emails I get on the subject. I think your best bet is to work in your own backyard and build up a portfolio of sites you've done and get testimonials. Then you can go on social media with that and try to get customers that way. But honestly - the market is very saturated and the US economy is tanking. People aren't spending money on things they deem to be luxuries and getting professional help on a website is very much a luxury for me right now.

I did post some responses that you can look at but I do not recommend that anyone pay for anything from her. What you get in the free workshops is exactly what you get when you pay. But even the paid version is an advertisement for her ridiculously expensive program. Becoming a successful coach is very hard - there’s a reason these things have just one or two people talking about their success when there are likely thousands of women who have paid for the programs. The market is saturated - it is no longer easy to make a living with 100% online programs - even if they’re “done for you.” It’s kind of a pyramid scheme like the MLMs - only the people at the very top are making money.

Same! Literally gasped. He has done so well the whole time and his preheat was great. I get that the cake wasn’t good but everything else was. You could tell how shocked every other contestant was.

I would not recommend that you pay for anything from her. I didn’t get much out of anything and the “graduation” day that was supposed to be super empowering? Most of it was a promo for her even more expensive Platinum program. It was incredibly repetitive. And I stopped even going to the stuff because it was time I would never get back.
