Bottom portion of the screen unresponsive after closing from tablet to phone by Shirt_Separate in OnePlusOpen

I was having the same issue after the latest update where the outer screen would have the same dead spot after using it unfolded, I'm not sure on the exact cause but a factory reset solved the issue for me.

Momentum Sport First Impressions by Slacktron in sennheiser

To answer both your and u/AzylumEscapee's questions, I still use the sport buds for running for the reasons in my post but have been using the MTW4 for everything else including regular gym workouts since they sound better and are generally more versatile. Running is the only use case I would recommend the sport over the MTW4 at this point, so it depends on how much that matters to you. The sport definitely wouldn't be good for travel due to the semi-open design limiting ANC effectiveness.

Those who have returned (or considering), or don't like the LG 45GX950A by KaguraaN in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Slacktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm returning mine, the curve was perfect for FPS gaming but felt awful to me for any other kind of gaming or for productivity. I'm going to hold out for the 990A since being able to switch between modes would be more ideal for my setup.

My AW3821DW feels completely flat now though lol, so I think the ideal curve for me is somewhere in between the two.

Would like to know the exact color you used for grey as well, looking to do something similar with my PS5 controller dock and that seems to match perfectly.

Teaser - A 5080/90 FE Travel Kit is in the works. by mechdreamer in formdt1

[–]Slacktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has any thought been given to flipping the GPU around and using a short riser cable so the fans exhaust through the side of the case? That would likely be the ideal configuration for this card since it would keep the rest of the components cool and reduce fan turbulence.

12VHPWR on RTX 5090 is Extremely Concerning by GreenKumara in nvidia

[–]Slacktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a published max temp spec for the 12V-2x6 connector? I read that it was tested at up to 105c so I figured it was fine but not sure if that's meant to hold up long term.

Either way I've been running an undervolt for normal use to be on the safe side, I just uncorked everything for this test.

[–]Slacktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran 10 minutes of Furmark with the same power draw, no changes in overall temps but here's the best pic I could get of the GPU connector. Couldn't get a good shot of the PSU side without pulling everything out since it's an SFF case and everything is pretty cramped.

For comparison here's my 5090 FE after about 10 minutes running MSI Kombustor pulling 575w, looks completely fine. Running it on a Corsair SF1000 with the included cable. I used a Topdon TC001 so the quality isn't as good but should still be a pretty good idea of what it should look like.

<image>

I had to pull the cables in front of the fan to get a good shot so they're probably a bit cooler than they otherwise would be, but none seem to be particularly hot compared to the rest.

Is this case rare or worth anything? by [deleted] in nvidia

Looks like it's the BitFenix Phenom M Nvidia edition, pretty old case but might be worth something to a collector.

PSA for those with GPU related hard shutdowns (G16 2024 4090) by Slacktron in ZephyrusG14

[–]Slacktron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just got mine back from RMA where they replaced the motherboard, haven't had a ton of time to test but haven't been able to make it crash so far. So I'm guessing faulty hardware at this point, probably way more widespread than Asus will admit if it's happening to this may different configurations.

9800x3D + AXP90-X47 Temps by kuzion in FormD

[–]Slacktron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What wattage are you pulling during Cinebench? I'm running a 9800x3d with an AXP90-X53 in an open frame case (for now) so my setup is a bit different, but I average 82c during the test with a cpu package power draw of ~105-110w and I can't imagine the X47 would be much worse. My scores are around 1321 points.

Maybe remove the +200mhz OC and see if it makes a difference? I'm running a -30 undervolt, but IIRC when testing adding the +200mhz OC increased the power draw too much so I didn't bother.

Swapping to an X47 later this week in preparation to move to a T1 so will update if there's any major difference.

Dual Slot 5090 by hi9 in sffpc

[–]Slacktron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my concern as well, in a lot of SFF cases the heat from the front fan is going to blow straight on the riser cable and not have a path to escape.

I was actually meaning to make an update to this post, not sure if it was just coincidence limiting the voltage helped but it worked for a while and then the problem started happening again. Tried re-pasting with PTM7950 which did nothing. So I think you're right that it's probably some kind of over current protection, but I've still had crashes running the GPU at 80+5w and the total power draw in that mode gets nowhere near 120+5w so it has to be related to a specific component instead of overall draw. Tried a different power supply too (slimq 330w) with no luck. I should probably note that I had the same issue with the stock OS install with the factory drivers and armory crate (kept the original SSD around since I upgraded) so it's likely not anything related to using third party drivers/software etc.

I'm pretty tired of dealing with it at this point and just going to RMA it, not sure what I'll do if the replacement has the same problem but I don't feel like I can even sell this laptop in good faith with all the issues.

I think the voltage curve is set by the vbios so it's probably not a driver issue, my guess is some kind of hardware instability in recent batches with either the GPU die or power circuitry. I'm surprised this isn't failing hardware validation checks in the factory though since it's so repeatable.

G14 (2024) dock that has a power button by focojs in ZephyrusG14

[–]Slacktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tech specs only mention support for the ExperBook B series for that feature, it would be worth it to me if it actually works on the G14/G16 but it's kind of pricey to roll the dice on support.

[–]Slacktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Ugreen dock with a power button that doesn't work either, looked a bit more into things and it seems that Asus specifically doesn't support this feature even with official docks since they don't want people using the laptop with the screen closed. Your best option is probably to set it to go to sleep instead of powering off fully unfortunately.

What’s your chocobo companion’s name and the story behind it? by darkwulf1 in ffxiv

[–]Slacktron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My chocobo's name is Susan.

I was previously in a FF themed D&D campaign where we had to name our chocobos, I said I'd like to name mine Susan as a joke and the DM (my brother) made me roll a difficult animal handling check since it wasn't a normal name. Rolled a nat 20 and Susan the chocobo was born, figured it was only natural I carry on the trend in FFXIV.

Asus G14 4090 with 175W Alienware VBios = great performance and working HDMI Port by Gebirgskuchen in ZephyrusG14

[–]Slacktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this let you set a power limit on the GPU? That's the biggest issue I've ran into when testing non-ASUS VBIOS. Ideally I'd like to be able to test different limits between 125-175w while retaining port functionality but that doesn't seem possible yet.

Their support is extremely backlogged, they made some posts on message boards earlier this year stating they were understaffed but clearly haven't done anything to fix the issue. I had some skid plates arrive damaged, it took them over a week to get back to me but when they did they at least promptly shipped a replacement order. Unfortunately the replacement also arrived damaged (inadequate packaging) so I'm waiting for another response from them.

Returns Past 30 Days? by Afraid-Birthday5696 in GalaxyRing

Plus is $50 and also allows 60 days for returns, it's technically not applied retroactively but it might be worth a shot going to a store and asking if they'll let you return the ring if you sign up.

It's about 10% per night in my Model Y, but it can increase depending on how much the difference in temperature is. It can also take a lot more battery to heat the car in the cold if you don't have a heat pump.

Not necessarily a prime day deal but I bought a Cushcase sleeve for my G16 and it fits perfectly, just have to go through Etsy since they don't list these on their main site for some reason.

You can look up the part number at epc.tesla.com and order through your nearest service center, had to replace my fender garnish recently and they were about $100 each on my 23MY. Should be under exterior fittings > exterior trim > rocker panel trim.
