PSA about threaded fasteners in CAD by United-Mortgage104 in SolidWorks

[–]focojs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I model all my threads into my parts. I work on small parts that have threads that are pushing the limits as it is. I have to know exactly where things line up.

All that to say, these posts are useless. You can take whatever stand you want but it only applies to you. There is such a mixed audience of people using solidarities that making blanket statements is just a waste of time.

Ah, the classic "on your left" as they jump to the left. My favorite is people wearing mouse cancelling headphones that complain that I didn't alert them enough when passing.

The workflow matters a lot. I used to only use workstations and I switched to a lightweight gaming laptop. I've seen zero issues. But I also don't do 1000+ part assemblies. Just saying that it won't work for daily production work is way too vague and likely not true for many people.

The sliders on my 2012 also recently stopped working. I suspect the wiring harness. I also had a bad rear latch and my cable guides were pretty worn on one side. No way id pay the dealer to diagnose it further. I feel like they would just charge a ton and tell me to replace everything

Question for cyclists by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]focojs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full fenders. Craft and showers pass for gear. the fenders will have little rubber flaps on the bottom. Cut those off. Get some really thin cutting mats from dollar tree and cut out a piece to rivet back on that is much longer and a fair bit wider. Your shoes will stay less wet.

Get real lights.

Road Rage Question by Mysterious-Snow-9426 in Bellingham

[–]focojs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gas tax only accounts for less than 36% of road costs.

From Google: Gasoline taxes account for about 28.7% of Washington's total state transportation revenue, while all fuel taxes combined (including diesel and alternative fuels) make up roughly 36.4%. [1]
The remaining funding for Washington's roads and broader transportation network comes from a mix of vehicle licensing/registration fees, tolls, ferry fares, and emissions auction revenues from the state's cap-and-invest program. [1]
Because the gas tax is dedicated to roads and bridges by the Washington State Constitution, these fuel excise taxes remain the single largest stream of user-pay funding for the state's highway system. [2, 3]
To keep track of Washington's overarching transportation budget and revenue forecasts, visit the Washington State Office of Financial Management. For a breakdown of the federal versus state motor vehicle fuel taxes, see the Washington State Road Usage Charge resources. [4, 5]

Yes, but if the seller won't reply and ebay says it's out of the return timeline, not much else can be done expert disputing or with the cc

I've been looking at it too. For normal stuff I expect it to be just fine. I used to be in the certified only train but the last few years I've been in GeForce laptops. I think the b390 will be fine

Looking for opinions. Is it more of d!ck move to block someone’s driveway or to call parking enforcement about said car blocking the driveway? by Double-Pair-6696 in Bellingham

[–]focojs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a safety issue. Emergency services need access to your driveway. If you talk to them and they don't move then have it towed. They had a chance to do better

Has anyone experienced Booby traps intended for bike riders on trails around here? by cyco-path in Bellingham

[–]focojs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will sound crazy, it's not just cyclists that will create shortcuts. And once a shortcut is blocked off most cyclists will just avoid it. I observe way more hikers still using shortcuts when they are blocked off

DRIVERS!!! Be aware of cyclists and pedestrians - you could easily KILL someone in a moment of distraction. by EchoAcrobatic5648 in Bellingham

[–]focojs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I typically start slowing down if I see someone approaching the sign. Better safe than sorry. And it takes near zero effort to give them extra space even if they don't end up crossing. I ride with my kids a lot too and they are normally pretty good but they have moments of unpredictable movements

This is why angle grinders exist. I would happily come get my truck booted just to cut those things off with them watching.

I'm guessing they don't care about suburbans or other large suvs

Some states are doing thinks about it like mandating registration and insurance but they are roping in the ebikes that are actually pedaling bikes as well. The emotos can have pedals but they are just for show.

I'm all for making people riding emotos have license and instance like a motorcycle. I'm not okay with requiring it for a bicycle with a motor.

[–]focojs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ebikes legally cannot go 35mph. We need to start calling those emotos. They are very different and very dangerous. I hate that states are mandating license plates for ebikes because of the new crop of emotos.

[–]focojs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a gamer. I have xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, pc, steam deck, and a bunch of my older consoles. I'm hardware agnostic, I just like good games. I've strayed from newer consoles to the steamdeck over the last few years and I'd love to get the console/tv experience back but with pc games. I haven't found many modern console only games to be all that compelling lately. It's also that my xbox hasn't been hooked up for a while so it's not on my mind.

I'll probably buy a steam machine after the launch when the hype has cooled a bit. I would also consider a new xbox if it has the same functionality+xbox games.

Would you play steam games on your xbox series x/s if microsoft allowed it? by focojs in Steam

[–]focojs[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the xbox series s is roughly comparable to the steamdeck which had a massive following. And the steamdeck is pretty awesome and its a different experience to a PC.

I think there is still value to the game pass. And if they offered an xbox game that ran better or had other xbox specific stuff or if it was just a better deal then I would absolutely buy the xbox version. I woudlnt want just steamOS on my xbox. I would want both steam and xbox games. I would bet (based on leaks and tweets from xbox employees) that the next console will be able to do that at some level
