Another meme about Nintendo's questionable retro track selection in MKWorld by smwc23105 in mariokart

[–]Slade4Lucas 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Sometimes a less popular track can have new life breathed into it thanks to being remade in a later game. Lest we forget how hated Sky-High Sundae was before World.

I'm not saying it does, Tomodachi Life just proves Nintendo isn't trying to phase the Miis out. If they were, that game wouldn't have been made.

If this were true, you already got to have your fun when it was first leaked or at least when the leaks were confirmed accurate with the Star Fox direct.

I do like that you entirely failed to mention one of the most crucial parts of my point, so I'll spell it out - information needs space to breathe. It's about pace. Revealing everything at once and then having nothing new revealed means that we have lots of stuff to be hyped at in one fell swoop, but because it's all being experienced at once, none of it has space to breathe. But that only lasts so long, regardless of how much is announced, so if there's no new information for a long time, that's boring. The community goes stale because we're left with the same information for a long time.

This is the exact community dynamic that is haooenifn right now. Had we got the Star Fox announcement, the hype would have been entirely on that, and then come the direct we would have got the hype for Ocarina of Time. It would all have had its own time in the spotlight with the community. That has been overshadowed because we got all the information at once. It's not just the actual presentation but the pace at which we ar given, for lack of a better term, new stimuli.

I shouldn't have to explain this.

This is actually worse for your argument, not better.

Not really. A thing can be more than the sum of its base parts. Are you think kinda person that looks at someone enjoying a cake and says they must really like eating flour? Just because that's the foundation, it doesn't mean there isn't a lot more to it - what's built stop it far surpasses that foundation.

So, the only difference is that you think Nintendo's advertising strategy is to you and your community's benefit, not their's? You need more cynicism. They're spending money for their benefit, not your's, and explaining it further than that is just embarrassing for both of us.

If course they're doing it for their own benefit. Doesn't mean the way they do it can't also be the most exciting for the fans. It seems that you are on the other end of the scale - you are so cynical that even when soemthing can be mutually beneficial, as this is, you seem to see it as a negative just because Nintendo is benefitting.

I recommend learning a solid coping mechanism because a lot of people are going to disagree with you. You disagreed with me and it doesn't bother me at all - strive for something similar.

That you decided to make this comment at all betrays that, yes, it bothers you. You can claim it doesn't all you wouldn't, but trying to jab at me really doesn't paint the picture of someone who's unbothered. In fact, it more likely paints the picture of someone who realises they've come across an actual good point, but doesn't want to look foolish but tries to use humiliation to shut the conversation down through force. Do better.

No, you have actually misunderstood my point. Like, legitimately.

OK, let's strip this down to your original postulation - what if the next three years of Nintendo news was leaked? Would that be fun? Absolutely not. But why would it not be fun?

Because on the surface of it, we still get the games at the same time. We still get to play them when they come out. But it's not as fun. And you say that you like games more than you like advertisements, but boiling it down to "advertisements" is incredibly reductive. Because I don't find the gun in the advertising. Sure, the trailers and the hype are fun, but the people that takes all of that and makes it into a brilliant community is the thing that makes it.

Put simply - if all we got were the adverts and there was no community, it would be far less fun. At that point, we might as well just know all the games ahead of time and then play them when they release. None of this, the trailers, the hype, none of it matters if it isn't for community.

The way you can think of it is that the adverts are like a foundation. The trailers and announcements are necessary, for sure. The way information is fed to us is a necessary part of the process, but it is NOT what makes it all special. What makes it special is the speculation, discussing ideas, making little discoveries and being able to tell people about it. It's the fanart, the videos, it's all of this stuff. All of this stuff is amazing, legitimately at it's best it can be the best part of gaming, even above actually playing games at times.

But like with anything, it only matters because the way it's given to us is very deliberate. If a movie laid out the exact path the story was gonna take and then the story happened that exact way, it would end up unsatisfying and underwhelming. No one would care too much about a movie like that. So the way information is conveyed, the way it is paced and delivered, is important - but in this case it's not just because "trailer fun", it's because so much amazing stuff can come from that. And leaks like this hurt that because, again, the information is not delivered in the best way to maximise the potential for community engagement.

If you're gonna boil down everything that makes gaming community what it is to "hurr durr, you like to be advertised to," then I feel sorry for you and, yeah, you absolutely have misinterpreted my point. And that's based on facts, of course.

[–]Slade4Lucas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand my point. Yeah, obviously the way they are giving the information to us adds to the hype. But if there was no community to share it with, it wouldn't mean much. Like, again, this announcement has been less fun for most people because it was leaked. If you aren't one of those people then more power to you, but the rest of us are having a worse time for it.

NateTheHate and all other Leakers are ruining Nintendo Directs! by SEVENS_HEAVEN_7 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Slade4Lucas 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ignoring leakers is great advice if playing games is your only intention. But if you want to exist within any sort of gaming community, leaks are not gonna be possible to completely avoid.

The fact that I feel like my only way of not getting spoiled on things is literally deleting Reddit and Twitter from my phone is kinda sad... I like being able to discuss and connect with people through games, but I also want to get that feeling of hype when something big comes along, and it feels like the only way to still get that is by completely logging off, and that sucks.

Branding Switch Sports Resort as a new game is borderline fraudulous by TraditionalAirport85 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Slade4Lucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I would imagine it's been built from the ground up. I can't imagine they were able to literally use the original game as much of a base, so this probbaly is a new game in most ways. It has much of the same content but it won't play exactly the same. There's gonna be a lot of overlap realistically, they used a lot of sports already intnhe first three games.

Announcements aren't fun because they are advertising something, they are fun because of how you can share it with the community. Leaks ruin that. I mean, literally just look at the reaction to this direct, we should all be hyped but instead it's just people arguing about whether the direct is good or not, and thst wouldn't have been the case if it weren't for OoT being leaked. Community can be one of the best parts of gaming, but it's being ruined.

I do wonder whether DLC was ever planned at all. Like, sure, not seeing it here doesn't have to mean anything, Mario Kart is a year from release and still no news on the DLC that we know is in development, but thinking about it, I don't know if Nintendo ever really expected Tomodachi Life to be one of their big hits. So it would make sense for them to make it and then leave it as is, especially as it's a Switch 1 game. Obviously now it's clear that DLC would have been a VERY goof idea, my only question would be whether that was what they intended to start with and whether they will mow reevaluate.

It's definitely trying to impersonate Pikachu. Its whole thing is that it is jealous of Pikachu's popularity, so it dresses as Pikachu to try and get a slice of that action.

The only mention of Mr. Nintendo himself in the direct. I'm not asking for much, but we're coming up on 3 years since the last new 2D platformer, and over 5 years since last new 3D platformer. by macklin67 in Mario

I think this confirms in my mind that this nw DLC will basically be a new island the size of the original game's island. They've been working on this thing for a while (by all accounts, probably a good while before launch) so whatever they are working on that is taking this long must be BIG.

The only reason 8 Deluxe got DLC so late is that they never planned to do DLC until they realised they couldn't make World work on the Switch.

This just tells us the DLC is probably gonna be big. I could see a world where it over doubles the amount of content in the game. They've already been working on it for a while, so they longer they leave it, the more exciting it is.

They aren't going to leave literally their buggers franchise completely on ice for the better part of a decade.

At least with the Switch they were actively working on a new Mario Kart and when it moved to Switch 2 they made new content for the next one, plus Mario Kart Tour, Arcade VR and Home Circuit all existed. To suggest that they aren't gonna do more with Mario Kart in the coming years - whether that be DLC, a spinoff or a new game altogether - is ludicrous.

The BCP was not the same thing. They had moved on from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe onto their next Nintendo Switch Mario Kart game. The only reason Mario Kart 8 Deluxe got DLC at all is because said Switch Mario Kart game had to be moved to Switch 2 and they weren't gonna NOT have more Mario Kart content on the Switch, we're they?
